The "DWB" SAS
Well I guess Its my turn to start one of these threads. I told myself I wouldnt but here I go The plan is a Leaf sprung waggy front and a explorer 8.8 out back for now. I'm going to start tearing my truck down after the August dunes trip. So for now its just been a parts collecting mission. I got almost everything I need so not too many things left before I can get to work late summer. I got most the parts in a group buy from a local jeep guy who was building a wagoneer axle but plans changed, So i picked the parts up for a sweet deal. I'll Have more updates during the summer as I throw the axles together and then tear down my truck.
List of parts:
- 90 Wagoneer D44
- 99 Explorer 8.8
- 4-runner Steering Box
- Chevy Flat-top knuckles (milled and drilled)
- Hi-Steer arms
- 5-lug swap parts for the waggy axle
- 2 New calipers and pads
- All bearings and seals (still need 2 gear install kits)
- Currie D44 axles (long and short) stock stubs for now
- 4.88 Genuine Gear for D44
- Quick-loc for the 44
- Warn Premium hubs
- Jey's custom Alcan Springs
- Trail gear shock Hoops
- Some half tread 36" Iroks
Here are a few pics I've taken so far:
after taking apart the axles, but before total clean up.

Passenger drop axles were from Wagoneers in the 1970's up until 79' I believe was the last year. After that everything was driver drop. I just picked up a D44 front axle from a 1987 Wagoneer (Driver drop) . You might want to find the BOM and look it up and see exactly what you year have. It took me a good solid hour trying to scrape grease and crap to finally find it.
