attention all prerunners
hey guys!
im starting to take a new approach with my truck and i now want to build a fairly cheap short corse prerunner much like the prerunner maniac/woolworth truck but with a little more suspension
i have a 98 4.0 4wd
i would like to pick your brain on how to go about suspension, drivetrain and so on
i also would appreciate suggestions on where to get cheaper prices on parts
Thanks

Coming up on 3 years of searching i have not found any...... thats probibly why there kit is so expencive!
if anyone has this kit would you be able to draw up the upper shock mount assembily and its dementions? im thinking i might be able to make my own and just buy the arms and shocks.... or would that not be a good idea?
but as far as the order i want to do my sus.... i would like to start with the deavers and bed cage or Cantileaver set up, then start the front off with the DBR style hoops and support bar and just make the coilover bracket for the stock arm and settle with that and save for the rest of the DBR kit
Any input, suggestions and what not would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

here is some research I did a while ago when I was wanting to do a DBR kit.
After buying CVs, Shocks, and a bunch of other little things I think it would be cheaper in the end to just buy the DBR kit.

The Dixon kit is actually quite affordable for what you get. There are no other options for a 4x4 at this time. Brenthal quit offering their 4x4 kit because of the difficulty/cost involved with providing the extended axles. Camburg is reportedly working on a 4x4 kit but it has not reached market.
Since you are looking at staying with leaf springs, you may want to look into the Giant Motorsports 64" kit with their "link killer" double bypass shocks. This kit is supposed to pull 20+" and bridge the gap between long travel leaf springs and linked rear ends. This is the setup that I will be installing on my truck.

I would call Geoff at Giant and ask him directly. He seems to fairly open to working with people that are serious about using his stuff. There is an install tutorial on desertrides (with lots of pics), but it does not discuss bed cage setup. Giant also offers a prefab bed cage that is not on their web site. Lastly, there are several threads discussing this setup on Dezertrangers.

Yeah matt hit the nail on the head. The deavers will preform for the price to a point. I too will be getting the Giant 64 kit and hopefully the link killer bypasses. DBR is the way to go just in the fact that the guys are very helpfully and they have the parts..unlike others who have tried.
