Swapping Cabs and front clips
#52
I drove the doner truck to the shop tonight without any lights. That was one of the scariest thing I've ever done, and I sure as he** won't be doin it again.
I start workin on it tomorrow. I'm thinkin about sticking a 6X6 wrapped with foam through the door openings to lift the damaged cab off the frame. Does anyone have any thoughts about that?

BTW ... I hope that guy on e-Bay buys your Ranger for $3200, just make sure he's not from Nigeria.

Well, I'm 98% done with the swap.
It was one HELL of a job, but it's so nice having a Ranger that'll keep up with the rice burners now.
The hardest part was definitely removing the cab bolts, but I'll have to say the 2nd hardest part was bleeding the slave cylinder and I don't think it's still 100% because it's a little harder to shift the transmission sometimes. That's a cheap *** set up Ford has there. I'd really like to find a better slave cylinder reservoir. Is there an aftermarket reservoir?
I have lots of pictures to post but check this out.
Some old country boy stopped by and helped me take the damaged fuse box shell off and put the 3.0 shell back on. I don't thing I would have even attemped to do this on my own.

Hey John,
Thanks for your support through out this process. I have a plethora of 2004 Ranger XLT parts. Now I just need to find a cab for my rolling chassis.
I thought this was going to be a 2 day job, and it ended up being a 4 day job. I'm so tired right now, I can't hardly type.
I'm going to call a few more places for the wiring harness tomorrow and if I can't find one I'll definitely need you to make a custom harness for me. I can't even roll my windows down now and it sucks not having the remote keyless entry ...lol
If you can wire that in for me I won't need to change the door locks out.

I know that going from a OHV 4.0 to a 4.0 SOHC is doable, If you're prepared to spend $1800 I'd say go for it and I highly reccomend buying a doner vehicle to do this because you need everything including the transmission. And the transfer case for a 4X4.
