installed my 5.13s today, front and rear. Also installed gears in Scotts Tbird, and 4.56s in another D44. Busy day to say the least.
Nothing went to well on my axles.
1st, Dana 44 yoke is trash. need a new one
2nd, my aussie locker the pins were BROKE... ha guy said they were "worn"
3rd, HP Dana 44s suck to gear... nothing worked well. I think we pulled the gears in and out like 20 times.
4th, Dana 60s are heavy!
5th, Bought the wrong D60 carrier,
6th, didnt realize my D60 carrier was limited slip
7th, should have bought D60 thick gears
8th, now i need a D60 locker...
only good thing is the gears are in and setup, just need working lockers or some spider gears.
Also Evan brought me 2 outter chromoly shafts and a inner that i needed. Along with some seals and a few other parts.

If you use a detroit, you can keep the VSS. I realize that your speedo is run off your tranny and you have abandoned ABS, but something to think about or to help out others looking at this for guidance.

Well this is what I got to say,
@#$%^&*() @#$%^&*&^%$#@$!!!
I bought the wrong brake rotors about 2 months ago for the D44, the offset of the hat on the disc is about a 1/4" shy, checked out the receit and sure enough I got the 1977.5 not the 1977 rotors. I guess ford felt they needed to change something half way through the year. Caliper wont line up to bolt in.
This sucked after I just got done packing wheel bearings and installing them.
But I did get my locker in the front installed, and the new axle shafts in and new Ujoints.
Cut the DOM for the Tie Rod, then welded the bungs on. Set my Toe...
Finished the disc brake setup on the D60 as well.
Pics
5.13s in the D60
Hub assembled.
Full lock to the right!
Full width vs Ranger width
D60 ready to go under the truck
And there they both sit.
I need to get some better shots of the 44 later. Same with the D60 brake setup

Mr. off topic here.
Int3rc3ptor: If you go the 60 rear route, be very carefull drilling the hole for the sensor. I helped a friend do it and if I had it to do over I would have done it differently. It leaks a little and the JB weld is ugly! I was thinking if you were to weld a little flat stock to the top of the diff and then drill and grind down the flat stock little by little until the sensor is at the right depth. Just has to be a better way than JB weld.
OK done highjacking.
Zabeard, have you decided on a rear locker yet?
Since it looks like you are going for a lunchbox, I have had great luck with powertrax no-slip. I have one in my 8.8 and I love it. It is the smoothest locker I have ever run. My aussie works, but I have sheared off the pins twice. And it is noisy.
I found the best price on no slip here.
