looks good, is the bed going to sit on top of the fuel cell or are you going to have to cut it?

yeah but it cant be any worse than 90% of those smaller cars that have those dinky plastic tanks in the rear.

Why not rig up a skid plate for it Evan? You could base the design off a BII's skid plate. The one on my BII is about 3/16" thick and strong as heck.

if it does, thats more reason to inboard the shocks.

Why not run the shocks outside of the frame? That would stabilize the truck a tad more.

How would that limit travel if you set them up properly A lot of desert trucks run shocks outide the frame and we know how much travel they have.

theres different kinds of travel. desert trucks want ride travel not to mention a desert truck with oodles of travel runs a completely different suspension type.

I know you are just argueing to argue now, because with a leaf srping suspension, your idea isnt solid...

How is it not solid? I have seen numerous off road trucks setup with leafs and the shocks on the outboard of the frame; they had plenty of travel.

You don't know it all Gil, other people have ideas.

sure, but your idea sucks! if I dont know something I dont give advice, there's plenty of places i dont poke into.

theres many flaws in your theory and comparisons but I dont really care to try to explain with you because if I say black you clearly want to say white just to disagree with me.

I want you to prove me wrong. There is NO reason why an outboard shock setup wouldn't work and you have yet to say as to why they wouldn't work. Please enlighten us on why they wouldn't work.

Even if you want travel, the shocks are going to be the limiting factor, no matter where you put them. Then the leaf springs follow as the next item to limit travel. If you size your shocks properly, then it really wont matter where you put them. The outboard shocks however do give stability to body roll.

shocks are only so long maurice, as the axle moves in motion it moves further to the outside. if the shocks were on the outside then they would have to be really long. if you inboard them the shorter they would have to be for the most amount of travel from that length shock.

I dont plan to move them at all even if they rub. Next summer I will more than likely be going to coil overs and a 4 link in the rear.

I understand that shocks are only so long, but being outboard would allow for longer shocks and more travel out of the shock.

The only disadvantage I can see to outboard shock mounting would be the cutting a hole in the bed to make an upper mount since you want the shocks to be mounted anywhere between 10* and 15* off verticle.

Right but why do that when you can mount them on the inside and use a shorter cheaper shock.

Not enough to matter on a big lifted truck. I mean if I was worried about stability I would have lowered the truck not lifted it.
