Comments on Airbox Mod

I think I'm in love with this mod.....not really. But I do like it quite a bit. I went out to my truck, opened the hood, and pulled out the box. Took out the silencer and viola! I like the whistle it makes!

If you pull the silencer out and do the other mod where you cut up the box what are the benifets for doing it

reversing the silencer makes an even better sound you can feel a difference cuz youre pulling in colder air.

I removed silencer and chopped the box to a skeleton. Would anyone like a chopped airbox? The sound is great! Nice throttle growl, but mudding + chopped airbox = SUCK ***.....I thoroughly soaked my air filter and stalled the engine. I was sitting half in and half out of a mudhole. I was able to start it up and get it out of the pit (after several attempts) and thankfully I try to keep a spare air filter so it's good to go. If you go muddin, do not do this mod.

Yeah, the plus side of only removing the silencer is its completely reversible.

Also guys http://www.ssd4u.com/streetsmart_001.htm sells intakes for our truck. I've had my intake on since umm, september, and it in the last week has gotten dirty enough to need cleaning. It's kinda funny because when i gun it it goes "WHISP" or somethin like that, as it sucks in a hell of a lot of air. But right now, since its getting clogged, it has a whistle, that reminds me of a turbo. I convinced my friend for a few minutes I installed a turbo in my truck hehe.

I went on a trip to wal-mart and did notice a slight change in the sound and a big change when taking off at a red light. I was wondering are u suppose to keep the piece from behind the headlight out?

What you should do is cut out only the bottom 2-3 inches of the front panel of the air box (that's also where the silencer is, so the silencer obviously comes out also). That's all you really need to give the engine all the air it can use. And you'll have no water and mud problem, because the air filter is mounted quite a few inches above the resulting rectangular hole you get.

I've had my box cut right below the air filter as long as i've had my truck. I just realized that it makes a crazy sound at idle. It sucks alot of air in at just idle and makes a suck/whistle noise, and mostly when the ac is on. Does everyone else's do this.
