Welcome to the forum

Ranger use two very different 2.3l engines, 2.3l SOHC Lima and 2.3l DOHC Duratec

What year is your Ranger?

Next step regardless would be a compression test, don't waste money on anything else until you verify compression is NOT the problem

You might try pulling the distributor to check if there are any broken/missing teeth on its drive gear. Has anyone checked the timing, worn belt or chain? That's all I can think of that might make several cylinders miss. Be certain too that you have the correct firing order on the plug wires. Good luck :D
