$ sent.

John Moorehead 12-01-2004 07:16 AM

Paid. I like my big avatar...

Alon 12-01-2004 07:33 AM

not paying, saving money to spend on my truck since i am still in school and dont have a full time job. i think the big avatars are annoying actually, bah humbug. on the other hand the site looks much better and if i do have some extra money i may make a donation.
also, i thought when this site was created it was supposed to be for the people equally and no donations were taken because it was supposed to be the peoples site not just the people who donated or the people in charge. i dont know if i am overreacing to a very little issue but sorry, i think the VIP thing is a joke.

You know, I actually thought about that as I was sending $$$. I mainly did it for the PM space and the avatar size. Oh well.

Scallion02EDGE 12-01-2004 07:44 AM

i agree with alon...the vip thing is somewhat pointless and isolates some people who dont have a spare 25bucks...i also agree that the site was created due to "donation" issues from other sites...it dont think its wrong to fund raise by selling t-shirts and stickers but fund raising shouldnt lead to making some members appear more important on the forum boards. just my $.02...

christian says: it is 10 dollars, not 25... no one ever said 25 dollars... and last time i checked, i created this site and it didn't stem from anything relating to donation issues...

Mnemonic 12-01-2004 07:45 AM

Just to set the record straight. You will not lose anything if you choose not to become a VIP. It'll still be the same site you know and love.

Heck the stickers alone are worth it. Server space that you can use for hosting pictures, movies, whatever is worth it.

John Moorehead 12-01-2004 07:47 AM

Oooo, I didn't even notice the free stickers...nice!

Alon 12-01-2004 07:49 AM

free? you just paid for em

John Moorehead 12-01-2004 07:53 AM

I paid for the EXTRA SPACE. So yes, to me, the stickers are free.

You could look at it another way. Buy the stickers, and get free forum upgrades....

FoMoCoFiddy 12-01-2004 08:08 AM

Go get the stickers made somewhere and it will cost you ten bucks, stop crying...

You spend about 30-40 on gas a week, you dont have the money to pay for it, then dont even worry about..

Dont bring your
"i got other things to pay for"
and
"i thought this site was made because of other sites and blah blah blah..."

Its a FREAKIN OPTION, do if you want too, were not forcing you to pay 10, not 25, to get a couple of extra goodies, if you choose too...

Ill shut up now, my .02$$ i just knew this would happen, oh well..

Im gonna go send John 200pm's now....
later, no one take offense to this, as it is my two pennies, you got a problem, pm me..

Alon 12-01-2004 08:11 AM

well those were my two pennies as well and i am not crying...... just stating my opinion..... my opinion is also that the whole VIP status is ridiculous with special VIP forums and i dont know what else. ....but whatever..... as a normal member i'll keep my opinions to myself from now on

FoMoCoFiddy 12-01-2004 08:14 AM

wheres my violen...

lol

Scallion02EDGE 12-01-2004 08:23 AM

my bad...i thought it was $25 instead of ten...must have mixed the numbers up in my head with something else when i was reading the topic...oh well

10bucks for server space and stickers is resonable...but i still dont know about the VIP forum idea.

FoMoCoFiddy 12-01-2004 08:25 AM

you prob read how much hp johns truck has... in his sig...lmao

ok. 25mb of space on the server i pay for? vinyl decals shipped to your house? more features? it isn't a donation. it is paying for a service and special features. as far as large avatars go: 150x300 was the size on the other board, so the larger ones are not, in actuality, that large. if you see vip as a joke, then don't do it. you still have plenty of features and the ability to do everything you could on the other site. there are tons of sites who offer the exact same thing, and magically members either pay for it or don't. i think of it this way, you pay more than 10 bucks a year for a magazine subscription that you read a couple of hours a month. here you can pay 10 dollars for a site you read more than a couple of hours a day, in some cases. not to mention storage space and extra features.

the more people that do it, the more money i will be able to put back into the site. the more money i can put back in, the more features we can have. my goal is to one day allow every vip member to have their own cardomain page equivalant and an email address, too.

anyway, do as you see fit as far as vip is concerned. before you get your panties in a wad, really think about what you are complaining about... a site that doesn't cost you a dime and you have put forth no effort whatsoever to build, maintain, etc. for the last 6 months this site has been free entertainment, as it still is. totally free. this site costs nothing to be a member of. the only cost that could ever be incurred would be if you want the added features that come with taking up more bandwidth and storage space on the server i pay for.

Trevelyn1015 12-01-2004 08:37 AM

after reading over ya'lls posts a second time, i have decided that i don't want to do the special forums for vip. i can see where that seems to be a problem, so i am not going to entertain that idea any more. thank you guys for being honest and upfront about your opinions on this.

Alon 12-01-2004 08:38 AM

ya know its more the concept i guess, when this site was created i offered my help which you said you didnt need and you werent accepting donations. i am very grateful to have this site to use and to share knowledge and all that other good stuff but when i saw this i was reminded of another site which had some major issues about money being put in the wrong places. i guess since here there is a return of the stickers and extra features it is better. also i had thought it was more than the $10, greg and i were talking and somehow thought it was $25. i would just like to see this site continue to be a community site and not the VIP's site because they paid for it. i hope you dont think i'm coming off as a dick, just tryin to share my views on it.

edit: after reading what you just posted above me, i think that there should still be somethign that you can make a donation and get that server space or whatever, just not the specialized forums and other benefits

thanks for listening christian [tup]

Trevelyn1015 12-01-2004 08:41 AM

nope. but blckout is not going to just give out free stickers or discount his tshirt prices for nothing. he gets compensation from me to be able to do that. this is nothing but good for the site. if you want to think of a name better than vip, go ahead...

and alon, like i said in the disclaimer: IT IS NOT A DONATION. and have now said there are no special forums.

Also, Christian and Co. is a better business partner IMO than Jason A. ever was.

Since this site's birthday back in May/June, we've seen SEVERAL upgrades, VERY FEW locked/closed topics, the list goes on. I gave Gen-edge $10 and in return I got access to a very moody, rarely working website with snippy mods and ZERO storage/gallery options.

My vote stays with R-F. As for the VIP thing, it's an upgrade only to the person that bought it....by me paying $10 I don't expect people to suddenly bow before me and give me the key to the city, so to speak. :)

christian and i are talking now and basically, my issue was the specialized forums for the "important" people. other than that i think its a great idea....heck its just what you get from yahoo or any other hosting site. you pay and you get space to use on the site.

blckout 12-01-2004 08:57 AM

i reserve this reply spot for my future post in the morning where im not stressed out

:-)

thank you

mental ambiguity 12-01-2004 11:59 AM

Actually, I'm in agreement: The VIP forums do not need to exist. Hell, honestly, I think a VIP status is a bad idea. In my eyes, you're all on the same level, contributor or not. But, as a contributor to the site, you get a few additional "bennies", and the free sticker, but that's about it.

And, like has been said before, if you don't want to contribute, don't. But as Christian has said, the money that comes into the site goes right back into it. Maybe not right away, it might sit in a PayPal account for a while, but it does go back to it.

I do understand the concerns though, and I think perhaps calling it a VIP membership needs to be changed.

Swoop1156 12-01-2004 12:32 PM

I dont care either way. I dont have a ranger, so I guess I am one of 'those' that take up much needed room on the site, right? Like, hosing pictures, telling funny stories, and intereacting with FRIENDS.

Leo, you need to chill out in your posts.

Christian, it was a neat idea and I know that you may not be able to [maybe you can] support the site in it's entirety by itself. I know that another Ranger Site we all were a part of once asked for a donation before...but nobody got any special treatment. Yes, your idea was nice, but some would consider it 'not cool', for a lack of better words.

Scott, thanks for all the help on the new site...it wouldn't be the same without you brother! Hell, I as a person wouldn't be me without you being there for me. You kept me sane. Trust me, I am sure I would have done something to hurt myself all those times.

To everyone else,

You might know me, you might not. You might like me, you might not. We are all human beings on here and there is no need to get pissed off at anyone over the internet, or something that isnt even happening. I know that some of us are able to spare the extra money for what was once a 'VIP Membership', and some of us arent. Maybe some of us can, but would have chosen not to. That is the freedom of choice. I like that freedom, and nobody needs to criticize others for their choice. Nor, do I think tht special favors should be given out either. If a person wants to support the site, do it. I would love to contribute to the site -- even though I dont own a Ranger anymore, I love the people, and I love all my friends on here. I would spend MY money so you didnt have to. I will devote MY time to work on the site for the people that cant. You all do things for me that I dont know how to do. I put my life on the line for you guys, what a few bucks?

If you want to set up a contribution fund to support the site, if needed, do it. I'll be second in line.

EDIT: I hate the colors, by the way.

Shalafi49 12-01-2004 02:25 PM

I think the special forum was not the best idea, but it's been scraped so nevermind...

I don't care for a label, I want a bigger avatar and I want to contribute to the forum. I've wanted to donate for awhile. I wasn't involved with the stuff that went on on the other site so I'm pretty lost here. I just want the sticker, avatar and to help support the site because host space isn't cheap and forums don't run themselves.

Gimme a label, don't gimme a label, couldn't care less. It's the features I want and I like the option.
