Suggestion.

My sugestion :

If a thread is deleted, a notification of such be sent to the threads original author.

I know one Moderator already said ' We ' won't do such, but according to another mod and an Admin, they never even heard the suggestion.

One actually thought it would be a good idea. The other stated ' I cant see why not? '.

Personally, I think its a good idea

ONLY IF:
Its an automatic forum feature, I know i personally don't feel like telling people, but it would be nice if the forum would automatically send out a notice to the orignal poster that the thread was removed

^^true that....

i agree....it would be good for people who are always posting up threads that say "where the heck did my ______ thread go?".....

and i agree that it would be better as a built in forum feature, BUT if the mods/admin have time to lock/close/remove a thread, they have the 30 seconds it takes to send a PM to the topic starter just saying that "hey i locked/closed/removed your thread because of ______..."....it would only take a couple words to say why.....no need for a book...

I'd be all for sending a PM if a reasonable person would be left wondering why it was removed. But when you blatantly violate rules and are offensive about it too, you know you are wrong and you know why it was removed. You don't need a PM to tell you something you already know quite well. I don't know any forum out there that sends PM's to notify someone why their blatantly offensive thread was removed.

what if the thread author wasn't the one who violated the rules and they go to check their topic out and it is suddenly gone?

I think sometimes it's obvious if you created a violating thread.

But as Maurice says, sometimes threads go awry while the person is away.

One thing that pisses me off though, Christian deletes posts that are appropriate in his threads. Basically he edits what he says and deletes what I say. Immature if you ask me. Although on the grand scale of things, it doesn't make me cry.

IMO its part of the forum rules deal with it or go elsewhere. no one really should have to question where it went, we know where it went, the mods took it, probably for a good reason too.

i rarely see threads being removed or moved for no reason, happens everyonce and a while but not that often.

the threads that do disappear needed to.

i think the person that started the thread should be PM'd but it does not need to be a public thing, ie "hey i locked and archived this thread"

one thing though, he owns the site, he can do as he pleases. it just works that way. sure it seems immature but we are not paying for it so just deal with it.

and yeah i read your last comment that it really isnt that big of a deal. im just saying he owns it so its his rules.

Yah, I still think it's immature to do, whether he owns the site or not.

Thats all that was asked for . Instead, I was informed I broke rules and given a lecture about ' other ' sites. I was told the staff here decided something that was never spoken about..

I was told to PM someone and edit something to get a thread unlocked.. I never suggested getting a thread unlocked. I suggested a notification when one of our threads are deleted. I have seen other people posting ' what happened to the thread about ( insert title here ) ' before and thought it MIGHT be a good thing to know if threads were removed.

For making a topic in regards to a suggestion, theres a responce of ' if you didnt.. ' blah blah blah.. Nothing at all to do with the ' suggestion ', instead its taken as a personal context as someone lacked reading comprehension skills and instantly wanted to snuff someone.

The truth ' is what it is '.

I thought that all ended with this guy . Apparently I was wrong.

If this is how it ' has to be ', fine. I'll play right along with it till some form of action is taken. I won't walk away this time.

What an example.

The topic was the same suggestion as what was put here. You decided to give a lecture. You spoke for everyone whenn in fact I was speaking with them directly.. apparently they thought different them what YOU were presenting as well.

Don't hold people to standards YOU aren't willing to set the examples of and do NOT speak for others.

My one reply is exactly on topic. I'm sorry your feel it isn't simply because it doesn't agree with you completely. I'd expect you and everyone else to do the same. Even if you hate my guts and want me to die, then keep it on topic and civil for the sake of the rest of the forum remaining peaceful. I won't let it get out of hand either so don't try.

The first 3 post's in this thread were discussing the suggestion. If it was possible to have a notification sent if a thread was removed. Then your first post was directed at 1 individual and was stating things from an issue you may have had from another thread or situation. This really was not on topic.

Who said anything about hating guts and dieing. That is a little extreme. Just because someone has a disagrement with you doesn't directly correlate into you should die. If that is how you feel about a persons opinion of yourself then maybe you need to lighten up a little and care a little less about what someone thinks of you.

I just have to question is that a threat and you are hiding behind it because you are a mod. Mods should be using their power to make anyone feel intimidated. No one said anything off the wall or out of hand in this thread so what really warrants this type of threat.

If this community is going to be come a dictatorship with the people in charge arbitrarily doing things how they want because of personal feelings then I can take my forum time to one of the many other RBV forums.

You've misinterpreted what I said, but I guess thats my fault for writing it like that. It was actually not directed at any one individual. My use of the word "you" is the general sense of anyone reading it. It was my take on the suggestion as it applies to anyone, not one individual.

No, it is not a threat. I'm just saying not to waste your own time drawing this off-topic because it will be brought back. It doesn't matter who does it, me or anyone else with the power to do so. So again, please keep this on the subject that was originally posted and everyone can remain happy.

i don't want to get involved... however, i am curious.... what has to happen for a solution to come about? from what i've read in this thread alone, it seems that two mods seem to be alright with the Author of a thread to be notified if his thread is removed, via PM or whatever, and that be that. who takes the next step and figures out how to make that actually happen? is this an unwritten agreement from here on out, or will there be some sort of final word given out to the members of this site

it would probally be more realistic to make it an automated response than have to have a mod write out a PM.

Obviously this is something for all of us moderators and administrators to sit down and make a decision on. I don't see anything different today than yesterday, last month, or last year. But obviously some are concerned about inconstancy and the last thing we need is something so petty tearing the forum apart. I don't doubt it will be a topic of discussion amongst us all in the very near future.

yeah i figured it wouldn't be figured out right this second... i was just curious to know how it goes about being handled... will the topic be brought up, but have nothing really happen, or will there be some solution made with a public notice letting us know it has been taken care of

yea we have alot of contributers and people who have donated in the past i cant imagine christian paying for much out of pocket and if he was im willing to lay cash down if he put thread up saying hey we need money for the site to stay open hed have more than enough money in a matter of hours, kinda like the situation with generation edge.com people were ready to contribute to keep it open

Thats ultimately up to the administrators so I can't answer that now. I'd be willing to bet that with the publicity this has for some reason gotten, the solution will probably be made know or added to the regular rules section or something.

lol, i know i know... i just felt the need to mention that many many people donate money to the site to keep it running after you mentioned that christian pays for it... that made it sound like noone gives any money at all so noone should complain.
