MY KC Daylighter 150watt Review

first things first. this is MY personal experience with having these lights, my first impressions and what not, so no bashing allowed. if you bash, i will cyber smack u.

ok i ordered from summit racing using zachs links on sunday, the lights were here by 12 noon tuesday. im surprised cause ups is usually slower than molasses.

so i open it up, and its the usual, ok ya ya... so, i get the lights out, and this is what i see:

these lights are HUGE by comparison to my other "offroad lights"

so.... they look kinda out of place next to my other lights, but i figured it would look better once both were installed, which is another issue, well not really, just a thought.

at first, seeing this gigantic wiring harness, it was like DAMN this harnes was pretty big. i digged thru it looking at everything, inspecting it all. personally, i think the harness is a lil cheesy. i mean, im sure it does the job, im sure it works well, but my first thought "what kinda mickey mouse harness is this?"

anyways, i didnt bother using it.

I used my own prewired design, which i think its alot heavier, well it is alot heavier, alot cleaner look. however since i didnt use their harness, i had to modify the lights. i did this by cutting off the "quick connects" on the lights, and soldering them to my harness. while this may scare some, it worked well. and ur not gonne just unbolt the light and run, u better have some snips with u, cause just a reg knife wont cut the wires i soldered them too =)

So while I was a weel bit disapointed in the harness, i cant say too much cause i wasnt gonna use it anyways. tho i did steal the fuse holder from it. since my inline fuse wire was actually laffable.

Installation went well since the truck was already prewired. It took me about 2 hrs to do it, only cause of my constant breaks and what not... nut it prolly coulda been done in less than an hr if i moved a lil faster.

performance: well, all i can say is DAMN the lights are amazing,. even thoe they are "long range" i have them adjusted so that they work well as "driving lights" they seem to give off enuff side light outside of the focused beem that it lights up the road along the whole length of the beam better than the head lights. infact, they make my head lights look like a joke.

I went with the 150's cause i wanted the biggest bang for my buck, and that was those, the driving lights at $170 a set were a bit out of my price range. while they prolly give off more horizontal light, im very happy with the perfomance of these.

all in all, im very happy with them. while i was a lil bit disapointed with the harness, the harness is pretty decent, just not my "style" i prefer my extension cord. its 3 heavy duty wires, all contained in a neat, weather proof package. something i would recommend others use for their harnesses. the cheapest wires on this deal ar at the actual light. my wires are about 2-3x thicker. they dont even get warm from the power draw.

I have noticed however that my rpm's do drop a smidge when i turn the two lights on, wether my other lights are on or not. so i would deffinitely not suggest any new comers reading this to use them with out the truck running, or ull have a gaurenteed dead battery in minutes, not hours.

oh yes, one last thing, the covers, bright yellow - lil bit "tacky" in my tastes, so ima hafta get some of them chrome rock gaurds - the metal ones instead.

few things the only think i dont like about the KC harness is the disconnects there cheap i like soldering everything but the wire are prefectly fine if you have a gauge wire bigger then what KC supplied you are overkilling 100% and if you where running a bigger wire on a 55w like you had you where extreamly over kill... i just hope you are using a relay i didnt hear you mention it, you probly are...

also i have only used those yellow covers once, and thats all i ever planed on using them btw my lights are never covered i cant stand having them covered...one last thing, if you get stone gaurds make sure its not the ABS plastic style because with a 150w light you cant leave the cover on it will melt it, there is a metal wire stone gaurd that you can leave on.

btw did you get stainless? and enjoy 23 year warrenty and a great light i love mine...

I like the covers... looks good dude. It is a pain having to remove the cover, but I rather that than having to scrape the fried bugs off.

Yeah i never even took my yellow covers out of the plastic, i have the rock guards on.....no point in having them covered if you have to jump out, take them off just to turn them on...its illegal to have over 4 lights on the front (2 head lights, 2 fog lights, and i have 2 long range lights) but i havent had any problems
