Beware of wvcat aka John Hudson
Ok guys here goes ... I tried to do John a favor by not exposing his vindictive ways, but he just wouldn't leave things alone. I too was fooled by John and that's how I landed up in this mess.
Pictures don't lie, but unforunately people do ...
Vindictive act #1
putting masking tape where no masking tape has even been put before. It's pretty obvious that this was done on purpose because when you paint any kind of door or window, you put masking on the glass, not the peice that you're painting!
Vindictive act #2 Painting my gas cap. (My 7 year old nephew pointed out that that shouldn't have been done.)
Vindictive Act #3
Painting my wheel wells Q. Who does this sh**? A. John Hudson
Vindictive Act #4 charging me over $150 for a gallon of Automotive Paint and then only applying 2 quarts
You can tell by the picture there wasn't much paint used because this paint came off of my tailgate when I was hand washing it.+ you can see there was no sealer/primer on the tailgate before it was painted.
Now I'll give John the benefit of the doubt and say these other thing were accidents
Burning a hole in my carpet with a cigarette and then shaving the carpet down.
#2 Loosing a $55 pint of Harvest Gold paint.
And the list goes on, if yall want more pictures just let me know.

The masking tape was put there probably when he cut your door in, i've seen that done countless times. you don't want paint on your trim panels do you? thats why there is tape there.
As far as the wheel wells goes. Are you kidding me? i paint the wheels wells also when i paint, your SUPPOSED TO!
150$ for paint? sounds fair, for every quart of paint you spray, you need a Quart of Paint a Quart of Catalyst, and a Quart of Clear. ask any painter, you don't just buy automotive paint, and just spray it on.
that Tailgate mark looks like a scuff, not paint coming off.
I'm not saying that he didn't do these things, but from my point of view, it doesn't appear that bad.

looks like a budget paint job to me. i doubt the OP payed John as much to paint his truck as what he would have payed a professional to do it. sometimes you get what you pay for.
Also OP, whats with the "vindictive acts"?

ForThe panels, your supposed to take them off, but that tape loojs like its under the panels, so he probably did take them off.

You paid $150 for paint and I bet you didn't pay a whole lot for labor. Quit your complaining. If you wanted something better than a budget paint job you should've taken it somewhere else.

Hmmmm.......I wanna hear Johns side of the story. I wouldnt be quick to pass judgement guys. We dont know the terms they agreed upon! Ive never met him personally but he seems like he is a straight up kinda guy.

I feel for the OP and understand why he would be mad. But I agree you get what you pay for. I'm guessing there want a whole lot of prep work going on and its pretty obvious there was a lack of experience with a spray gun. Even on my phone I can see the orange peel going on lol. Shibby situation though nonetheless

IMO only: 1. its a gas cap...grow up and close the door or paint it black..2. a little over spray in your wheel wells? once again, they should already be bed linered or black painted...3. Thge masking tape is ****, i agree 100% but last time I checked you were human and you mess up too. 4. dont wash your truck so damn hard. then you wont take your paint off. but John should have beefed up the clear or wax for you I do agree.
5. last time I got a paint job for 150 (which was never) I took it as a pretty good deal and was happy and figured that if you want something done right...do it yourself.

Lets keep this civil, at least until John has a time to respond. It does sound like a case of you get what you pay for though.
OP have you tried to PM wvcat directly about all these issues or did you just go ahead and post this thread?

This is going to get quite interesting.
I saw in another thread where John was claiming that Brian owes him 250 dollars left over from this work. I bet this thread was made to show why Brian didnt want to pay him the remaining 250 balance.
With that being said, the mistakes shown here could have easily been fixed with proper taping off. During the build thread I saw all 4 inner fenders are over sprayed like that but didnt say anything.
I have never done business with John but he does seem like a decent guy from the times Ive talked to him.
I have done business with Brian and everything went smooth.

$150 wasn't the price with labor, obviously, thats a crazy low price.
regardless of the cost of the job, the masking on the doors is bad. I'm sure the gas cap isn't that big of a deal, but it's still another example of cutting corners. I've dealt with Brian and he's definitely a nice guy. I haven't seen this paint job in person or dealt with John myself so I can't really comment on that aspect.

Brian...i know its not the best job in the world but those are all little things that went wrong...easily fixable...if you paid a body shop to do that you would be paying upwards of 3 grand...and you only paid for the paint which isnt a bad price

Im guessing there is more too this story, standing by for Johns side. And the mark on the tailgate, doesnt look like it "came off while washing" i doubt thats the case, doesnt look like it, looks like a it was scrathced off by somthing, i mean unless you were washing your truck with a razor blade. How long did you let that paint cure before washing it?

should have taken it to macco, paid more money, and get the same results?
have you even tried talking to John to get him to correct those items before just *****ing about it on the internet?
