Ok, This is the first time I seen this thread.
Like the old sayin goes, there's two sides to every story. Now let me tell you what really happened.
I had a hub unit that was starting to go bad, so I asked Rich (acemavrick) if he could replace it. He agreed to do it, so I went to NAPA and bought a SKF hub unit for $214.57 after tax. The guy at NAPA who sold me the part specifically told me not to put the unit back on with a impact. Then I took my truck into Olymco of E-town where Rich works. I told him NOT to put the axle nut back on with a impact and he agreed then he tells Joe (Rich's co-worker) to do his magic and Joe lays into the axle nut with a impact driver. I was just blown away. I asked him why he done that, and he told me they do that all the time and just laghed.
After Rich got done with the he asked me for $50 (his boss let him do it as a side job) I went to the ATM and got $60 out and paid him. I gave him a extra 10 because I was trying to be nice.
Well, everything was ok until I got close to Peoria, IL then I could tell my passenger side wheel wasn't right. I pulled over to see what was going on and I seen that my wheel was sitting sideways. I just assumed that I needed a front end alignment or a new lower ball joint.
So, When I got back from my 1200 mile round trip. I took it into Big-O tires to get a front end alignment and about 30 minutes later a mechanic calls me up and asked me if my truck had just recently been wrecked. I was like "hell no" what are you talking about?
I rushed in there to see what was going on and he showed me all the stuff that was damaged and then I told him that I just had Olymco replace the hub unit and then it was like a light bulb went off in his head and he knew what the problem was. Apparently Olymco has a bad reputation. He told me not to drive it (which I wasn't going to anyway) and take it back in there and make them fix it.
So, I called Rich up and told him what was going on and I told him what was going on. I wasn't mean or nasty, I just told him that it had to be fixed.
I had it towed into his shop on Monday morning. Then Rich removed the 3 day old bad hub unit that was installed incorrectly and I got a refund.
Then I went to Advanced Auto parts and paid for a new LBJ, UCA and a new hub unit. I paid for all of this stuff. Olymco didn't buy any parts.
Then when my truck was fixed, Rich's boss wanted $220 from me and I told him I that I wasn't going to pay him because his employee was responsible for the damage to my truck. He got a little nasty with me and then he told me that he would just write it off on his taxes.
Just for the record, my mom didn't pay him anything. I was nice enough to pay for the damaged parts, most people wouldn't have even done that. So there was no way I was going to pay for any labor.
And I guess I should also point out that acemavrick sold a STX radio bezel to Lazler and then waited over a year to ship the product to him. Then he was just banned like a month ago for talking sh** to SteelDirigible. If anyone wants pictures or more details about this bad deal just send me a PM.

This is the first time I seen this. I didn't think he would be dumb enough to say anything about what happened.

IF you're telling the truth... f**k the shop that did the repair on the hub. If you asked them not to do something and they did, which then results in damage then they should be held responsible.
I wouldnt pay those ******** either.

I'm telling the absolute truth. If anyone doubts me, just ask Darth Ranger about this. He knows about the whole situation and he seen my truck in person when it wasn't driveable.

I'm anything but shady ... Ask anyone that knows me about that. I'd give the shirt off my back to help someone out.

I really have bad opinion on you just because of the **** that went down with john, so i really am not going to state my opinion on whos right and wrong. BUT if it was done as a side job, as YOU stated, then i see no way the SHOP should be held reliable........

Brian I do have a correction for your story, ace wasn't banned for anything against me. Just to correct that.
As for this whole other issue... Well I want to stay out of it honestly because I have met both these guys, traded parts, had meets, but I have not got anything negative to say about either one. So for the sake avoiding any awkward meetings I will not take a side in the story, and will keep any thoughts to myself.
I hate that this has come up and I hope you work both work it out or at least learn to coexist. I would think that you all are close enough that you can work it out without having to discuss it too much on here.
I know there's two sides to every story, but as I wasn't a part of either side, I'm going to avoid picking one now. Hope you get it worked out...

It sounds like the first job was a side job and the repair or second job was charged on the books. I would guess that is why his boss charged you. I also agree with josh. I don't think the shop is liable since the first one was "off the books" as for the second, I am confused if it was on the books or if it was paid for.
Myself, if it was my shop. My employee wouldn't be doing side jobs on the clock (if that happened)
I'm not playing the blame game. I will say though you've gone to two members and fallout has happened both times. Maybe you should get your work done by people you kno in person and not on the web.
Kinda like that customer who never gets the right pizza delivered and nit picks at everything. Eventually the pizza shop owner just says " maybe you should find a new pizza place..."

Brian has bad hub
Brian takes truck to Rich
Rich's shop does side job... incorrectly installs hub
Hub goes kaplooey
Brian goes on long road trip with bad hub
Big O says truck is f'ed
Brian takes truck back to Rich's shop to get fixed
Brian refuses to pay for work to have it fixed when he thinks shop should be held responsible (even tho it was side job)
Brian bought UCA and LBJ, that apparently got messed up by Rich's shop?.. not sure if shop put those on?....
I think that's the short version.
