I got mine in, really easy to install.

ran into a problem, apparently with domestic trucks you need to reverse the polarity.. quick fix. I'm about to order 55w 8000k's for my highs.

Love 'em.

id say stick with halogens for the highs. unless you drive with them on a lot. but if its just a bunch of short flashes thats not good for the ballasts or the bulbs. and the bulb wont get a chance to get to its normal operating temp before being shut off. it kills the ballasts and the bulbs lose their color. ask me how i know. lol

I mean i would stop flashing people. I guess I'll have to take a drive out of the city on to some dark long roads and see how i feel about my normal halogens..

Silverstars Ultras are 54.xx with tax, the 55w HIDs are gonna be somewhere around 75 shipped.. and i would have to wait another 2 weeks.

if i had different housings for hi's and lo's i would keep halogens in the highs. **** even with the ranger, my stock output is pretty good. have silverstars at the moment. and the high beams are great. i wouldnt mind keepin em. im just getting HID's cuz they look cool lol

Ok. I'll bight, how do you know? Is this from running the kit in your ranger with a single bulb setup with Bi-Xenon kit? Or running it in a vehicle with 4 bulbs (2 for low, 2 for high)?

If you experienced the problem on your Ranger or with a similar vehicle then your assessment of what went wrong is, wrong. Bi-Xenons (as in the H/L kits) don't do anything with the arc to change from high to low. Some have a shield around the bulb that drops away from the bulb when the highs are activated to allow more light to hit the reflective surface. Others, like the 9007's appear to just move the bulb up and down. You can flick the H/L kit in your Rangers all you want and it doesn't change anything but the position of the shield or bulb. No change in arc temp.

This could kill the ballast I'd guess if its the main driver for the actuator. And that would cause issues with lamp temps/color.

I guess I just wanted to make clear the H/L doesn't work like the Halogens do where you have a low beam filament and high beam filament and it changes between the two. With Bi-Xenon HID's it's always the same arc, and always at the same temp. It just changes position which in turn effects the reflective area in the lamp that is used and the light output position in front of you.

i understand the difference between the two. and i have seen this on vehicles without dual filament bulbs such as the 9007

my friends 07 wrx haD HID's in the hi beams and low beams. it took a while, but after a while of just using them to flash people, one of the bulbs started losing its temp and it finally quit.

and personally, i had lo beam only HID's in my grand prix which was also a 9007 bulb. the alarm on that car flashed the lights when you unlocked and locked it. I was a noob back then and didnt think twice about it. about a month after having the HID's in and the lights flashing everytime i unlocked and locked it the bulbs lost their temperature and started looking like halogens.

so in his situation, im not talking about dual filament bulbs. i was in fact referring to the fact that he will have another pair of bulbs and ballasts for the high beams and that repetative flashing of said HID's will take its toll on them.

well, that's what I get for assuming 99ranger4x4 would be talking about HID's in his ranger, on a ranger forum lol.

this has to be just issues RECENTLY on ddm's part. i've ran them in 3 different vehicles and my 5 quads for the last 3 years with zero issues. hopefully they figure their stuff out and don't go downhill :/
