Infinity Kappa speakers

I recently switched out my old Pioneers for some new Infinity Kappa 6x8's. Here is the review for them.

The old Pioneers were defiantly and great improvement over stock and not bad speakers, but they weren't up to my needs. I wanted something a little better sounding that I could play louder without distortion. After looking at all of the other 6x8 speakers I found the Infinity Kappa series speakers and was in love. They feature a very high 100 watt RMS and a 300 watt peak power rating. The cone itself is made from a very high quality woven glass fiber. One of the features that is very cool and unique that I immediately noticed is the tweeter, unlike most other speakers the tweeter is angled and has the ability to rotate so that you can point it exactly where you want it instead of at your knees like most others. Another cool thing on the tweeter is a -3dB gain button so if you find the tweeters to be too loud all you have to do is press the button and you loose 3dB, very trick.

Now I did not just install all the speakers and then use my memory of what the old ones used to sound like. I installed my passenger side speakers (front and rear) and left the old Pioneers on the drivers side for about a week. The difference was night and day even from the drivers side you could hear the bass was much cleaner compared the the muddier bass of the Pioneers, the mids and highers were also much clearer and louder. When I would crank up the stereo you could hear the Pioneers start to distort where as the Infinity's could handle it no problem and still remained clear. The difference between these two is night and day. I also have a set of Sony Xplod's that I installed for a few days to compare, they aren't even worth mentioning. Even the Pioneers sounded better. After that I installed two stock Ford speakers I had in the garage, I'm not even going to waste time typing about those.

The Xplod's and stocker Ford's were pretty dirty from sitting on a shelf for a while so I did not take pictures of them. Here is some pictures comparing the Infinity's to the Pioneer's

Yeah I'm wanting to switch my Pioneer speakers out for something better but I want to amp them as well so I have to wait a bit.

Oh, yes I am actually doing a review on those too lol. I'm testing them right now, they are a little too deep to use in the fronts so I just have one installed in one of the rear doors to see if I notice a difference.

The ones I have are made by DEI

I would use them in the front to keep the speaker from getting wet. I'm sure you could mod them.

Trust me, they look smaller online lol. They barely fit in the rears, but I don't think the speaker will get wet in the door panels tho.

Well water does go inside the door. It's not totally sealed. I used to have a pool in my driver's because the drain was clogged.

I might have to try the Infinity Kappa 682.9cf in the rear. I have pioneer 3ways 6x9's up front right now, but the rear ones need to be replaced. Alls I know the Infinities are about triple of what I paid for my pioneers....

I have four of the infinity kappas in my truck (682.7) and I agree totally, they are just crystal clear speakers and I love them. I don't have them hooked up to an amp or anything and they still sound great. They do lack in the bass though, but I don't mind since I've got a sub to pick up the slack. If you're gonna go with these, you may want to contemplate a sub...
Oh, and I have the baffles in the front, but not the back, you would need to cut them down quite a bit to fit them (I have a '93 2 door supercab) I even had to shave the stock grill to keep the tweeter from touching and rattling against it.

the baffles are nice but not needed. word to wise is install the speaker wire threw the bottom and tape the hole up. i had to fix a former installers mess up on that on a 2001 chevy1500 i am looking at the type 6 comp and see the bottom 1/3 is discolored like it fried then i pull the door, and the screw are all rust and corroded(spelling) then i unscrew the bottom 2 screws and water POURS out and i am like WTF. i pull the speaker and the terminals were corroded off and the inside of the baffle was moldy. all because the hole for the wire was on the top unsealed.
