I installed the hust short shifter in my edge the other day and i can say it is amazing, but the only thing is that i can here a nois of like gears turning coming from the shifter area... does anyone else have the short shifter? and is there anyway to tone down the vibrations of the shifter cuz mine rattles. any help will be welcomed thanks

 

I installed one, than installed a new Handle because the original was not laid back or high enough.

What I did to reduce the noise was to put some sound deadening material over the hole on the metal area on top of the OEM rubber, added a square of foam and more sound deadening material. Then cut a piece of foam and wrapped the lower part of the stick, the part under the boot, this helped some too.

I found when i first did the conversion and using the OEM Plastic Boot Cover with the Hurst Boot cut to fit, that more foam under the plastic cover helped some too.

You will not get rid of all of the noise but most of it.

THEN:
I decided to put in new carpet and while I was at it I decided to add sound deadening material to the WOLE inside area. When I got to the Shifter area and the Trans tunnel I laid it on thick and close to the hole, two layers just to be sure. I applied some foam around the lower portion of the shift/Trans and used a new Boot to cover that with foam inside, as much as I could fit without distorting the boot.
What I got was far more than expected. almost no noise coming from the gears.
It turns out that yes the shifter carried in more noise but the road noise was more than I thought and the sound deadening/foam did the trick.

Where am i going here… lift your rubber mat or carpet and put some sound deadening material over the trans hump/tunnel and fit it close to the opening. Add the foam wrapped around the lower part of the stick and you will reduce the noise, may not stop it but it will be down a level or two.

just saying that he could have found it by using the search. i had no knowledge of what you emailed him. and when someone else comes around asking the same thing, now they can just click on the link.

 

but that still didnt work for me, did the carpet mod work for anyone else or does anyone still have the rattle in 3 and 4 gear

 

i have a rattle in mine between 2000-2500 rpm in any gear. but it started before i put the hurst in. the hurst only amplified it. i can stop mine by pressing down on the shifter.

 

That’s it “Amplified” !

Pull back the Carpet/Mat and put some sound deadening material over the whole Trans Hump and keep it close to the Trans neck itself, don’t cut back any. In fact if it touches the trans neck some no biggy. Add another layer around the hole(s) and outward about 6 to 8”. Wrap the Foam around the trans neck and up the shifter some, the part covered by the boot, and tape in place then add some sound deadening material to the outside of the foam, tape in place.

Before added the Foam to the Trans Neck, readjust the shift stops a little tighter. make sure you can still get the trans in to gear, take the truck out and test the shift stops then do the foam up the neck thing.

Mine is great now with the sound deadening material over the Hump (over the whole floor actually) doubled up on the hump and added the foam on the neck, just as stated above, worked for me.

You have to adjust the front and rear stop bolts so that they make contact when the shifter is firmly in 2nd gear (rear stop bolt) and 3rd gear (front stop bolt). Use Loctite to keep the bolts in place. Your rattle will be reduced greatly. I have no rattle right now. All i hear is the meshing of the gears.
