puddle of gas lying on top of motor.

im driving my cousins 96 ranger. it has the 4.0 5 speed. i started driving it a month ago and it had been sitting for 3 years. it ran fine when it was parked. as the month went on i kept smelling gas really bad, the truck started to idol really rough and it lost power. i opened the hood and looked around and come to find a puddle of gas lying underneath the intake ontop of the block....why is this happening?

Sounds like the o rings on the fuel line are rotted and leaking.

I haven't checked into the Ranger4.0 engine too much, but is there a fuel rail on top? My Chrysler Cirrus had a MINOR problem similar, and the fuel rail was slightly leaking. A quick tighten and it was fixed.
