One month = > $1000

Well I have been a member on this forum for a month as of today and have already invested over a $1000 in the truck courtesy of this sites How-to threads. Not that this is a bad thing though, I just thought I would show you the mods that I have done because of you guys and this wonderful site.

Well this is the one that started it all. I saw a post on double din head units and had no Idea they could be had for so cheep. I ended up getting the Panasonic CQ-5800U mainly because it looks like a factory head unit but it gave me the AUX input for the ipod.

Old vs New

IMG_3255.jpg?t=1264876313

IMG_3257.jpg?t=1264876357

So once I found the How-to section it was all over.

First I did the 04+ third brake light mod

IMG_3263.jpg?t=1264876462

Then I did the SN95 Mustang rear disk brake mod

IMG_3320.jpg?t=1264876551

Next I decided that the stock speakers were not on par with the new head unit so I purchased 4 Pioneer 4 way speakers that were recommended by others on this site.

IMG_3317.jpg?t=1264876691

Next I decided that I was tired of the open diff in my truck so I got a Powertrax No-slip locker for the rear.

I do not have picks of the install or the locker so I will just post pics of me testing it out

IMG_3284.jpg?t=1264876833

IMG_3297.jpg?t=1264876865

IMG_3285.jpg?t=1264876891

one of me, why not

IMG_3302.jpg?t=1264877724

So after a week with the new speakers I decided they did not have enough bass so I purchased a Infinity Basslink.

Side note: sound system is now complete

IMG_3308.jpg?t=1264877032

IMG_3307.jpg?t=1264877060

then I discovered the Explorer OHC mod and decided to give that a try.

Note: If you have a Pick A-Part by you go there, I got everything needed for this mode for $20.

I also installed a dome/ map light out of a 2008 F-250 while performing the OHC mod.

IMG_3319.jpg?t=1264877329

IMG_3309.jpg?t=1264877364

So that is what the last 30 days of my life have been like thanks to you guys.

Looks great! Now you need lighted sun visors and an auto dimming rear view mirror.

The dome light is a little different than the one in the thread. it actually has a plug in the back of it where all three wires attach. All you do is splice the two power wires together and the ground gets ran to one of the screws.

I dont like the looks of the auto dimming mirror (to big), and there were not any visors at the yard that were in nice condition. I am wired for both though if I decide to expand.

I like my 05 tails but would like to do the Led conversion, but will not as I will be attending the CHP academy and I dont think they would go for that.

I think your rig looks great just with the stuff you've done. Very tasteful with excellent functionality results. You've turned it into what should have been offered by Ford as standard options on an Edge or Sport package.

I dont see why they wouldn't. LED's aren't bad by any means. If they were so bad why would they put them on the police units? If anything that makes driving at day and night safer for you.

I'm going there with the thought process of "if it isn't stock, it isn't legal". Better safe than sorry.

I have only had it for a week and a half, but i dont see why it would change one way or another.

2wd, well technically it was 1wd, now its 2. The fact that I had my tires at 37psi front and 33psi rear didn't help things out in the sand though.

Thanks man, thats what I strive for when choosing which mods to do. Form and function, if it doesn't have something to offer in both categories it probably wont go in the truck.

Almost everything aftermarket is not D.O.T. approved, therefore illegal for use on public roads. Police units have L.E.D. lights for emergency vehicles because they have permits to run such lighting equipment.

I haven't done the research in a long time, but when I did look years ago, NOTHING LED was legal for some reason.

Bingo.
The L1224Rs are taken off Mercury Mountaineers, how is that aftermarket and not DOT approved? They come stock on the 2010 Mustangs and Taurus Xs too. Seems like its time for you to look again.

Things have changed in recent years, but retrofitting a none led housing to accept a led bulb is risky for me. HID conversions are illegal and can be dangerous if improperly installed, so I think it is reasonable to assume led's are the same. Once I'm done with the academy I will be able to give you a definitive answer, but until then I will be steering clear of this mod.

You should really go to the doctor and get that cold taken care of. In all seriousness though I like the truck the way it is with just the t-bar crank.

I'm not familiar with California vehicle code, but upon a little research I found some pertinent information.

26101. No person shall sell or offer for sale for use upon or as part of the equipment of a vehicle, nor shall any person use upon a vehicle, any device that is intended to modify the original design or performance of any lighting equipment, safety glazing material, or other device, unless the modifying device meets the provisions of Section 26104. This section does not apply to a taillamp or stop lamp in use on or prior to December 1, 1935, or to lamps installed on authorized emergency vehicles.

26104. (a) Every manufacturer who sells, offers for sale, or manufactures for use upon a vehicle devices subject to requirements established by the department shall, before the device is offered for sale, have laboratory test data showing compliance with such requirements. Tests may be conducted by the manufacturer.
(b) The department may at any time request from the manufacturer a copy of the test data showing proof of compliance of any device with the requirements established by the department and additional evidence that due care was exercised in maintaining compliance during production. If the manufacturer fails to provide such proof of compliance within 30 days of notice from the department, the department may prohibit the sale of the device in this state until acceptable proof of compliance is received by the department.
