Other than the obvious, what are the differences between a suspension lift and a body lift........

 

the obvious pretty much says the difference...



one the body is lifted off the frame.

the other, the suspension is lowered away from the frame.

 

Body lift = cheapest way to lift your truck. only advantage is that you will have more tire clearance.

Suspension lift = way more expensive, but a lot more functional for off-road use.

 

only advantage HAHAHA ever try and change o2 sensors on a ranger without a body lift AHAHAHA... plus more clearness in the engine bay. personally i would lift it just for working on everything

 

i honestly dont think the suspension lift is "a lot more functional for off-road use"...if u do a suspension lift ur just dropping every thing any way...front diff, LCA, front cross member, and ur rear diff is always gonna have the same clearance depending on what size tire u run....so the only place u gain clearance from a suspension lift compared to a BL is in the middle of the truck....but unless u do the coil over swap after u do the SL you dont even really gain clearance there either.....and they dont change any of the suspension components unless u do a COS so the suspension doesnt ever work better.....

 

so i just want some ground clearance and space to run some 31s should i just go with a body lift? I never liked them because you can see the frame at the bottle of the truck. Is a leveling kit basically just a body lift for the front end?? Can I fit a 31/10.5 r 15 bf goodrich A/T or rugged trail tire on a stock 2008 wheel.

what is ur truck...if its 4x4 and u do a prekey u can fit 31's fine

 

oh and I now have 225/70 r15s on my truck if i went with the 31s should I re gear it????

 

its a 2wd 08 xl looks like a micro machine and I am having real issues with that!!!!!

are you stoned?!! how can you say a SL doesnt improve not that functional for off road use? ever heard of improving suspension travel and flex? or heard of why you need ground clearance under your frame rails? so maybe you dont get high centered? and a BL does nothing to improve travel at all... a suspension l lift improves both em them...

a suspension lift on a 1998+ truck doesnt improve ur travel at all...it just lowers everything....and ya getting high centered is a huge problem for me....but after looking at a SL truck and a BL truck the SL only gives u 2 or 3 inches more clearance...is that worth $1800....also for lots of kinds of offroading getting high centered is not a problem...a SL will not help u in the mud, or sand...unless ur going over a really steep hill, the SL may help a lot on trails where ur going over stuff all the time and in and out of holes but iv found that if ut hammer it hard enough u can get over most stuff with out that extra 3 inches...there has only been one hill my buddy with a SL'd truck could go over that i couldnt no mater how hard a tried....but that hill led to nowhere...so ya it does help but its not (WAY more functional)

 

when done right a SL can improve travel but mainly in the rear and not the front. IFS is IFS so there is not much difference. A huge part of offroad is clearance and if your doing stuff other than puddle jumping that frame clearance is huge. Trust me I have followed SL'd trucks when I just had a BL and I was scraping all over the place. So that 2-3 inches is huge.

ya but as long as ur not getting so hung up that u cant go any further....then its not that big of a deal...i built bad *** skids for under my truck so i dont have to worry about dragging my under carrage over the stuff i need to cause i dont have 1800 bucks..as long as i can get over it with a little more momentum than a truck with a SL, then im fine....so ya the 3 inches helps but for most people i dont think it would matter.....i can defiantly think of a few trucks on here with SL that would NEVER need that extra clearance...

 

didn't make it over everything, had to get tugged over a few hills and you have to think about approach angles and such. No way I could go through a few spots that the SL'ed truck could do cause my bumper would hit to early or get caught on the rear bumper from drop offs

 

thats true...but ur also double lifted....would ur bumper height be any different with a just SL'd truck and a just BL'd truck?
