K & N Air Intake

Anybody have any idea if the K & N Air Intakes that are available for the rangers are worth the money? K & N claims an approx. 13 HP increase but those figures are produced by
K & N. but for 300$ I would like to know for sure. Anyone have an intake that they would recommend?

From what I have read up here, the best for your money is to just buy a K and N drop in, for the stock air box. Supposedly, our trucks already have a "cold air" intake on them.

I noticed with mine that it seems to sun smoother, plus a 1-2 mpg increase. More power? Nah.. I dunno. Certainly sounds MUCH more aggressive at WOT.

$300? I got mine for $105. What are they smoking?!

i just built a spectre one from autozone. got a spectre filter then got pieces. Cost me around 80 bucks for everything. IMO intakes dont really make much of a difference except for a deeper sound.

Definately don't spend $300 on one. They can be found on eBay or forums for less than that.

If you look at the overall design on a K&N vs. the stock air intake, they are prett much the same. Only differences will be primarily cosmetic. I've also heard that you can end up with bad heat soak with a whole K&N intake. Heat soak = POWER LOSS

Just stick with the stock motorcraft air filter. The stock intake is a cold air design anyway and with the oil-less filter you won't have to bother with getting the MAF gunked up which happens frequently with oiled filters.

dont believe the power claims, but i did experience slightly better mileage as well as having a filter that you can clean when it gets dirty, plus it sounds awesome. try and find one used if you can, i like my K&N FIPK but its not worth $300.

More like "Hot" air intake. I can notice the difference when my truck idles at 100 degrees in the engine bay and I can't roast my 33" tires. When shes at around 60 degrees they spin VERY quick.

I have a B&M i bought off ebay. paid around $200 or so. maybe less...Anyways, yeah makes no difference. Other than looking/sounding "cool" and they are easy to clean with a million mile warranty.

most people who buy the k&n filters don't take care of them or over oil them which is better for me speaking as an automotive drivability technician.

A reuseable drop in will save money over the long haul...best tip: remove the air silencer.

Mine is nice the way it is although the 33’s makes it work a little more.

Jp7 - Nice Job on the Vid post.
Laughed my *** off with the audio and the movements of the characters - looked like they were going to have show-down and draw pistols, NICE one !
