I have an 01 Edge 4.0 2wd and should have had the 20 gallon tank from the factory. I have never put more than 16 or so gallons in my tank which leads me to believe that I have the smaller 17 gallon tank. If you know exactly which tank you have can you please post pictures for me so I can compare which I have to which tank i should be looking for.

the 01 edge 4.0 has a 19.5 gallon tank and the fuel gage will read "E" but (at least on mine) there is about 4.5 gallons left.
i once drove 75 miles with the "check gage" light illuminated.

 

Yeah its a 19.5 gallon tank with a 3.5 gallon reserve.

 

That makes sense, I figured maybe a gallon or so reserve so when i filled up 16.5 gallons it would mean that i had the 17.5g tank. Thanks guys.

how about a 05 2wd?

 

My 04 3.0 Edge 2wd had the 19.5 gallon tank in it. If you can put 16 gallons in it before the gas light comes on thats what you have too.
