School me on CB radios

i know absolutely nothing about cb's. Didnt know if posting this in the audio section would be appropriate. Either way, im thinking of doing a bunch of road tripping this summer, and was considering a CB for where cellphones dont get a signal...for any emergency needs..is it worth it..will a cb get a signal if a cellphone wont? i seen a cheaper one at walmart for bout 100 dollars..not too bad if u ask me..some cobra model...

whats with all the "breaker breaker" stuff..how do you tune in? whats the deal?

i got one in my truck, dont ask me how to wire it in as it was there when i bought the rig. i like having it for road trips and around the farm, road trips means i can listen in on the truckers and get cop locations and a few good laughs, around the farm its nice cuz we arent burning cell minutes. yes a cb will get signals in and out where cells cant but there has to be someone on your channel to hear you.

theres really no need for all the breaker breaker stuff, thats all radio ettiquete, jargon and slang just being polite on the air will be enough. tuning in is as simple as turing the cb on and selecting a channel. i beleive that 18 or 19 is the standard interstate channel and before the cops and paramedics all went to government bands they broadcasted on 9
