Towing questions

Well I'm towing my boat soon with my 3.0 w/ manual trans, the boat is around 3200. Don't tell me not to tow it because I know it will do fine, I know how to tow with a manual trans. My question is what came with the towing package? Was it just a hitch, wiring and tranny cooler? Because my truck came with the wiring and I think they might of taken the hitch off but no tranny cooler.

Would it be worth it to add a cooler?

tranny coolers are for auto trans

i think in your case the tow package would just be a hitch 99% of rangers ive seen without tow package still have the wiring

transcoolers, as stated above, are auto only... for now, i want to put one on my truck, just for the sake of it, but it would take a lot of work (not that i haven't done similar work, i helped put an oil filter on a ford 9" diff)

My truck's towing package was the hitch, wiring, heavy duty springs, and tranny cooler. ready for 5,000 lbs!

Thread seems to of answered my questions, no tranny cooler and I am going to look into the springs as my leaf springs are worn out.

I've been considering a boat myself but I'm a little concerned: not whether my 3.0 liter 2wd automatic will pull it, but whether it can pull it out of the water. I just wonder what a guy does in that situation? Offer a guy with a F-250 $20 to pull your boat out for you, then hitch it to your Ranger?

if you can't pull it out of the water, you can't pull it down the road... bottom line... you need the power and weight to be able to get it moving up a hill on the hiway and not to impede traffic, and the weight infront of it, to stop it... so if your truck isn't big enough to pull it out of the water, do not take that same boat on the highway with that truck

If it came with the factory package you should have some heavier duty springs. Just count how many are in the spring pack. If its only 3 then you dont, if its 4 then you do and get to towing already.

I have to disagree with that. Pulling a boat out of a boat launch is harder then you'd think. Some boat launches are steep as hell and are gravel and usually are soaked in water in the first place from previous boats.

My boat launch isn't steep and is concrete, also I have 4.10 gears so I am assuming I won't have a problem. Anyway if I do, I'll just take the Duramax out, the fuel pump went on it so I am waiting to get it towed back here to fix it but if my Ranger cant do the job I'll just wait an extra week and take the big truck out.

what i'm saying is if you have trouble (read can't do it) pulling something in any situation, you should not be driving on public roads... i understand that the boat launch is steep and wet and has gravel and sand, but there are lots of roads that have steep hills, with gravel, and water, and sand...

let me make sure this is clear though, worrying about if it will be able to do something, and being able to do it, are 2 different things... bottom line, don't pull it if it's out of the specs for the vehicle, and if it's in the specs, it should pull it out of the water with no issues

For the sake of arguing, I pull a 33 foot fifth wheel. If I was put on a gravel road that was on a hill and was very wet and I had to pull it from a dead stop I wouldn't be going anywhere. (And I am not just saying this because it has happened before) And my Duramax can and is rated to pull more then what the trailer weighs.
