Hello All,

I am new to Ranger-Forums, and i am looking into purchasing a used ford ranger. The year would be from 2005 to 2009. I want a 4x4 but i would really appreciate some advice for what to look out for when looking around. For example is the 4cylinder more reliable than a 6 cylinder? Any help would be great.

both are fairly bullet proof engines, the biggest con you hear about on the 4.0 6 cyl is if its a 5spd the slave cyl likes to go out fairly often.

and the 4cyl hasnt been offered with 4wd since 95 in the US, but i see your location is "NL" so i dont know if they maybe have them there

not sure if the later 3.0l 6 is like this, but some of the late 90s ones had cam syncro troubles, couple of people on here have blown theirs up

yea, you'll have to find a 4wd with a 4.0L.

newfie, eh? you guys get snow, i'd get 4wd and 4.0L if i was you. it's a great motor and i love mine. look in the classified ads. there was a guy getting rid of a 08 or 09 sport 4x4. i dunno if he still has it or not. oh and he was a fellow canuk so there would be no issues aboot duty or customs.
