university vacation proyect...
well.. im on finals working and a tad busy right now.. but if everything gows ok i should have a tube bender for next week
a manual one but comes with dyes that go from 1" to 3"...... lol... not sure if its for 90` bends or for the full 180` either way i got a few proyects on my hands...
i want to build some sliders and a rear bumper (yeah.. another one) , this time tube bumper thats wraps around the sides of the truck so i wont bust another tailight and the bed (which i havent fixed...)
and... heres the tricky one... an exo cage. been watching pics i want a simple one that goes from front bumper to the sliders and roof and build a new roof basket from it. and the rear ill just go with the bumper wrapping around the sides and trhowing a support to the side of the frame so itl be as solid as possible.
anyone got any good pic of a simple design exo on a pickup? or any suggestions.. still got a month to think about it.. prolly the rear bumper ill gona start it sooner... (i gotta try the new toy around the shop! )
i was thinking bout printing oput a few pics of the truck, copy them and start drawing over them until finding a nice desing i like. but i got no idea...
what tubing should i do? i was thninking 2" most of it and 1" or 1.5" on soem parts, like most of the roof basket in 1" something like that...
any suggestions_

i was thinking something like this but with a roof basket and made for my front bumper.. but also.. forgot to mention...
do something like what the arb bumpers do that u can unbolt the fender guard from the bumper..do the same but on the whole cage.. be able to unbolt the cage from the sliders and the bumper..
not sure if i explain myself its a tad late...
i do alot of trail wheling so its klinda a must.. and several times ive been about to roll over so i belive i do "need it" more than i "want it"..
my idea is to fab it to make it bolt ononly on the sliders and bumpers that way i can takle it off to either paint it, fix it or just because....
the pic is just an idea of how i might do it design worth only...

yeah the idea is that its bolt on to the sliders and the front bumper when i get some drawings ill scan em for any suggestions.. im no treally good paionting on the pc i rather have the pen and pencil jaja
ok i got a pretty close idea of what i want. ill hope to get it on paper to upload it.
steps:
sliders
basic cage
drop it weld it and start building the roof basket with all the toys i want it to have (lights, horn, toolbox, air tank)
paint it mount it,
build roll bar that goes till the back with 2 jerrycan holders on the sides, highlift mount and axel and shovel mount on the other side
new tube rear bumper that wraps around the sides

I had the same idea for the top rack on my Jeep.
I want it removable and secured to the Sliders in the front by the door edge and to the bumper in the rear but with a hinge.

i dont know if u get the idea. the sliders gona be like beards sliders were at the tips the rollcage gona grab on the rear its 2 jerrycans a high lift and a shovel and forgot to paint the air tank for the air horn. but that way i take all the big stuff from the roof and i can make the roof basket sit lower, then the rear lights throw them unde rthe rollbar facing back and the front ones sit upside down over the windshield or something like thzat.. any suggestions?
btw im going to see the bender theyre selling me tomarrow so it all depends on how it goes tomarrow.. ill post a pic of the bender tomarrow ...
Nice setup, gotta love the 4-dr Rangers.
The Cage is interesting, a lot of work but it will be worth it for trail use, a little over-kill for a DD.
A friend of mine has a full exoskeleton and he did a slow roll with minimum damage to the body but in turn he went through a deep mud hole and dented the body but not the Cage; mud got in between the cage and the body, kept going and the mud applied pressure and the body gave way, funny.
Looks good, get to it but make sure it is what you want before making it; a lot of work to undo after the fact.
Luck

That rig is neat. How I wish mine had that front end... Btw, What's with the broken tail light, man? You got hit or did you hit something? Hehehe
Imo, your design is great. I saw a CJ7 with the high lift on the rear bumper. It seemed like he had hit it multiple times when wheeling... I think your setup is appropriate for your needs.

the tail light and a big big dent under it was because of a wheeling trip on a very narrow place and slippery going doen some 15 ft the truck slipped to the side and hit the wall. some wheel spacers or the new bumper i have in mind wouldave saved me that...
yeah i know its a lil overkill for a dd... but its also my wheeling rig so i gotta protect it. what im liking is that i still got the chance to remove the cage if necesarry (ie for the vehicular inspecions that might bug some...)

My Jeep Sliders are Rectangle Tubing.
The Roof Rack is going to connect in a similar manner, to the front of the Sliders and at the rear to the Bumper that is part of the Frame.
Going to be nice, get’r done !

lol i dont think ill be able to wait till vacation ill prolly start a build thread soon when i get the sliders done..... im gona buy square 2" for the slider and 2" round for the "step" to make em like beards sliders, the rollcage gona go attached to the square part of the slider.
got the bender today, it got the dyes for 90* bends but itl be enought for what i need to do, if i need bigger bends ill play around with it and oving around.
heres the bender i got, pretty decent for 370$ with al the dyes......

truck still on the shop for regearing... so its still on hold
so atm im deciding what size tube to use.. as i was looking that 2" tube might be very overkill i could just go with 1.5" or 1.75" but thicker instead
was looking at some 1.5" and 1/8 thick that costs 23$ for every 20 feet.
so im guessing the whole tubbing gona go around... 160$ with paint... so not that bad for the exo... and i guess the rollbar gona go on 2.5" tube... but thats later
as soon as i get the truck back and get started on the sliders ill post the build thread to get suggestions

i was thinking.. im doing everything new in tube..... sliders rollcage rollbar rear bumper.. why not make a new front tube bumper?
i do wheel alot of trails so aproch angle is essential so i was thinking maybe i could make a winch base like t5cents made and build a "prerunner" bumper around it and attach the rollcage from there?
