1998 Ford Ranger XLT


Hopefully I was the first to reply... If the engine size checks out, and miles, and interior, i'm gunna get it.

 

it says it needs a tranny rebuild..? im not sure your budget but can you not find a truck that doesnt need work? and if you do get this do you have the know how to rebuild the tranny? or the funds to get a new one in and replaced ect

 

New manual tranny = 300 max from JY, shop fees = cap given to someone that wants it for the use of his shop and knowledge. i get a $7000 truck for around 1500. And I honestly think its something stupid simple. (i wont tell the guy that tho lol)

 

just cus it needs elbow grese dosnt mean its a bad deal. for a grand its not a bad deal. even if it needs a tranny. its a good looking truck

You'd be surprised korey... KBB may not be 7, but rangers around here sell pretty high usually.

 

yeah i don't see how that's a $7000 truck, it looks nice but for a 98 for $1000 that just needs tranny work seems a little odd to me

Every once in a while people post trucks that are in perfect working order, except the engine, or tranny, and they dont know how to fix it, or want to deal with it, so they put it up for super cheap.

Plus, i'm not afraid to work on stuff... The only thing I have not done is rebuild an engine, tranny, and t-case. I've done just about everything else on cars tho. Love to turn a wrench.

Thats what I said! lol Cant wait to get eyes/ hands on to make sure its not some POS thats gunna fall apart when I drive away lol.

 

yeah i've replaced a motor,t-case,and did a 5spd swap but never rebuilt a motor or tranny,but i'm always up for a challenge myself

 

I might tear into the tranny if its a manual, but probably sell it to someone that knows their stuff.

i have taking apart a auto tranny before,never a manual tho but i must say it's alot of work and parts, but if you got the will and info on a tranny i would say go for it lol

 

it wouldnt get back together. LOL

Motor, I think I could do, Trans, nope...

 

if you could do a motor than you could do a trans it's just alot of clips and bands,and bearings if you put it in order the way you took it out, and replaced the bad parts you could do it

 

too many small parts lol. Engines are mostly large parts... Some small ones tho.

 

yeah once you get past the heads there is really no small parts on a motor,but if you got the tools and the money to buy another working trans i would try to rebuild it yourself

 

The body seems to be in above average condition for the year. I also like the gray paint trim. Didn't know they offered that color scheme back then. Anyway, I'd probably go for if I didn't need a working truck right away.
