Funny HAMs can talk all night but not add a comment on the computer.
Study the books, do the tests at the end of each chapter.
I the books are like they used to be mark off the correct answer after studying, then go back over the questions and the correct answer only, it works really.
Do the on-line test too, do a lot of them, you get the idea of taking the test and you start to remember the questions and answers.

Just pick up a book and test guide and study. It is multiple choice, and you get the full question pool. Everyone is different on what works best, some like to block out all but the right answer, but I don't. I prefer to quiz myself on each one when I read over it. Make sure to read the theory stuff before digging into the questions though. I also took notes to study frequency ranges and stuff. Whatever works for you!

A good website to go practice your test is QRZ.com. It has random test questions and you can either have it set to let you have one try per question or try until you get the correct answer mode. Also helps to read through the books depending on how much you already know or dont know about radios. My grandfather was a ham, so i grew up stringing up wire antennas and swapping out tubes, etc. Good luck and have fun with it!

None yet, have been doing all kinds of upgrades but that is on the list.
I will be installing an older Kenwood Tri-Band, UHF/VHF but it has been expanded to a five Bander so now it has 2, 220, 440, 6 and 10 meters FM, I think there is room for one more but that enough.
Will post pics when completed but it won’t be for a while.

IMHO… no the test is not hard, all it take is a little time to study.
You buy a book with all of the answers in it, they even tell you the correct answers somewhere in the book too, what can be hard.
If you wait a little while the rules might change again and allow for open book testing.

The rules actually jsut changed as of 2010 i am still studing off the old book cause i have gordon wests book on cd so it makes it easy to study. i have been taking the practices test on QRZ that are updated with the new rules and so far im not doing to bad. i took the test once b4 back when i was 15 or so and failed by a question so its not that hard

Yeah I think I did mine when I was 15, probably need to renew.
I have an older yaesu ft8100 I think, dual band mobile rig. I haven't swapped it into the f150 yet. I've also got a yaesu dual band handheld floating around but I haven't used any of my stuff since I moved here.

I work at the Amateur Radio Operators candy store (Ham Radio Outlet) and I'm workin' on my General right now. Keep taking the practice tests. Thats all I did for my tech, and that's all I'm doing for my general.

The key here is to study the book.
My way is this… Read each chapter, take the corresponding test, if you get a wrong answer, read and find the correct one, mark all the correct answers and after you finish studying the book do a quick read of the Questions and just the correct answers everyday until the test. also while on line I would the on-line test two or three timed daily; I max’d most of my test using this method.
When i would take the test I would read the question and the correct answer just popped up, or at worse case I would read the answers and then the correct one would pop up.
No matter what the case or the method the key is study, study, study…

He has a bunch of 440 repeaters all up and down the coast, aprs repeaters, wx telemetry, maintains several 2 meter repeaters as well. Probably the only ones that you might hear in the Tigard/Portland area (unless they are linked) are the ones on Mt Hebo...

It seems like he was on 147.22 most of the time, he maintains that repeater as well.

I found the best way to study was to read the documentation till you understand it and then just take the practice quizes until you cant miss any questions.
I aced it in fact the club running the test assumed I was taking the general too.... I couldn't afford it at the time.
