Icon7 International MAXXFORCE 5 diesel motor

I was searching around online about the 4bt ranger and I found out that international makes a 4.5L V6 diesel engine. I looked on powerstroke nation and people were talking about how cool it would be to have that motor in a ranger. I was wondering if anyone has ran into it before and how much do you guys think it would be to do the swap?

Is that the same engine used in the medium dutyish Ford LCF's??

Would be cool....but a 4bt swap is $$. This sway would be $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. lol.

It would take up a lot of space....It would have a lot of power though. I'd consider a 4bt before that.

yeah now that i thought about it, I'm gonna try to save up enough money for the 4bt swap. Does anyone know how much it would cost to do it all?

Engine...anywhere from $1000 to 3000...Possibly need a different radiator. Figure out what trans/tcase you would use+a good $700-1100 for adapters. If you could fab your own mounts that would be cost effective. If you have to change your driveshaft lengths+getting the new yoke on the tcase/trans to work with what you have..guessing your keeping 4wd...$400 for both. Then exhaust and intake (could use piece of exhaust for intake work) $100-350.

I would guess you could easily hit and surpass $4700-5300.

4bt's came in older delivery trucks, like bread vans. You can usually buy a complete running van for around $500 bucks. And they usually had built turbo 350 trannys behind them. Just pull what you want and scrap the rest for $500 and then your engine and tranny were free. I've known two people who have done it that way.

The more I look, the more the prices go up...I haven't seen a running engine go for less then 1000 and have seen a couple of vans go for $1750-2500

Take into consideration your truck, and what power it can take.
It would be like putting a cummins engine into V8 build dodge ram, the frame and powertrain of the V8 would eventually break under stress of the power of the Cummins.

Im just saying, you want an engine that will work well with the rest of your truck, but not so much torque and power that it'll snap the driveshaft when you throw down the gas.

You could tune it to have 200HP and 450ftlbs of torque and be just fine on the truck frame and drive shafts...maybe throw a half ton rear end in it if you get sick of replacing 8.8's. I can't see why it wouldn't work well with the truck. The V8 dodge and cummins dodge have the same components.

I just read over on pirate a guy picked up that Ford v6 diesel from a LCF for 1900 at auction. Not too bad really.
