4 Cylinder Body Styles?

I am looking for a used 2002 or newer 4 cylinder Ranger. I only seem to be able to find them in regular cabs. Were any of these available in a Supercab or Supercab Edge version?

Too bad. No Supercab then either?

Have they come out with a new version of the V6 since 2001? My 2001 3.0L gets 14mpg more or less and I'm hoping for better in a newer Ranger but prefer Edge style Supercab.

The engines haven't changed much since 2001. If you are looking for better full economy I wouldn't look into another Ranger.

Maybe wait until next year an get a new V6 F-150. Or look into another light truck. I heard the 4 cylinder Colorados are pretty good. The I5s are a joke.

The 2.3L Ranger with manual pushes 30mpg but it is only like 130hp.

The only things 4cyl didn't come on(at least for all 98+ trucks) is 4x4 and Edge/06+ Sport package. This excludes Fx4 because all Fx4 are 4x4. You can get 'em in 2dr xcab, 4dr xcab, XL, XLT, Splash/Sport(98-00) trim packages, 5spd manual or 4spd auto, etc. 01.5+ 4cyls are all the 2.3L Duratech DOHC 4cyls.....zippy little motors when combined with a manual....especially on reg cabs. GREAT mileage too. The reason all you're pretty much finding is 4cyl reg cabs is because most of those are sold as fleet trucks...econo work horses and most who opt for the Xcab, go with the more powerful v6's.

You can always make an XL or XLT look like an Edge....alot of folks do it and it's pretty common with a grille swap, bumper swap, and the sorta hard to get hood swap. Here's my brother's 2.5L '01 XL with the full Edge treatment...

Kevin.....the 2.3 Duratech is a completely whole new beast compared to your 2.5/2.3 Lima engine. The new 01.5+ 2.3's are damn near or at 4.0 acceleration.

Edge could have a 4-cyl? I thought those only came with the 3 or 4L V6. Also, reg cab XL's were the only Rangers to have vinyl seats, and usually did.

ford should have never stopped making them...that is where toyota is making serious money because they have 4cyl 4x4 tacos and the 4cyls make almost as much power as the 4.0s

Actually, the taco 4 cyl has a little more power than the 3.0. However, the Taco 4.0 has a lot more power than the Ranger 4.0.
