opinion about my `98 3.0 4x4

i picked up a `98 3.0 4x4 with 3in bl 265/75/16 wranglers wrapped around american racing rims. its a lil ruff but nice. he hit a deer and there is frontend damage. needs new headlight and assembly. interior isnt the best but decent.

im trading in my `04 edge for my wife to the dealer so i traded her car for this rangers.

there is a good bit of play in the steering. could this be from the bl linkage. heater only work on high and defrost. ac doesnt work he said it just needed recharged. no dome light.

im gonna switch out the cd players and keep the 6 disc mp3 player from the 2004. i also plan on removing the carpet and put vinyl flooring in like the `04.

ill post pics when i can of new truck

Loose steering is a fairly common Ranger problem. 98-00s were the worst. some 01-03s had it. 04+ it's pretty much gone. Really the only way to fix it is replace the rack and pinion and the PS pump. I heard doing a PS flush helps though. Make sure you dump some lucas PS stop leak in there to.

let me know if i need to move these question to somewhere special but im gonna keep askn here cause i dont wanna start another thread i like to keep it all here.

why is there no heat in this ****? truck warms up fine but it only blows cold air. no matter what setting i put it on it blow out the defrost. is it the heater core? i have no wet spot on the carpet that i can tell of. anyone know where i can find a replacement for cheap? junkyard or on this forum?

im headed to junk yards here in the next few days to get some things like the headlight housing and head light. how hard would it be to convert over to the '04 style headlights? and maybe to the '00 honey combe grill. the '00 had the power dome hood wasnt it? i know ive seen the swap for both but cant seem to find anything. i know the grill needs changed if i change the hood. what fits with what yrs on the combos.

check your steering shaft for play before you start spending money because you can fix it yourself

this was mine...i had so much play in the steering wheel as you'd expect from how loose it was.

There is a bolt at the bottom of it that goes to the rack which was loose. I just tightened it and it was good to go. Its easy to get it at if u unbolt your power steering cooler, it looks like a tiny radiator

hey i went out and was lookn thru things. first i checked what 99offroadrngr suggested and it was tight. i followed it from the fire wall all the way down and couldnt find anything out of the ordinary. so i got underneath snd checked the rack and pinion set up and it looks ok. so i scoped out the driverside assym and didnt see anything either.

Not a terrible looking truck. If you want the powerdome hood and honeycomb grille set up... look for a 01-03 ranger in a junk yard or craigslist. Getting the whole front end and switching the header panel, headlights, grille and bumper/valence and hood would be better if that's the look your wanting.

If your heat doesn't work, I would check the thermostat, and the heater core. Both should be fairly cheap replacements.

it is but im also leaning towards my 04 look more so i think im just gonna go with the 04.

this is what im gonna use to do this
header panel 04-08
headlamp 01-08
corners 01-05
grill 04
hood 04-08

that should get me to where i need to be. this truck is to replace my 04 4x4 edge 4.0 the dealer wants to buy it back and my wife wants a new kia hampster box. so im gonna replace my truck with my truck :) i traded her car for this ranger about $2200 value.

You should either get 06 corners, or find some clears... and mod them. Looks sweet on a black truck. Not sure if your truck is wired up for it or not... it's easy to do if not, but I would do the mustang dome light mod so you can have some map lights.

end link wont cause it to do that on the steering wheel. i've had one break at 50mph and all that happened was that it made a noise, link hitting the road at 50 lol. I don't even have my swaybar in right now. took it off for offroading but i'll put it back on whenever lol

well fella's my truck is officially gone. so now its time to dump all my money into the 98. im gonna order a few things from fleabay in the next couple of days and had some questions

first question is about the front clip. if i use the 04 grill and headlights will i need to change the hood?

next question is are the fenders the same even tho the head light and side markers were different?

third question is has any of u guys use these ebay replacement kits? 2004 2005 FORD RANGER BLK GRILLE HEADLAMP CORNER PANEL - eBay (item 170567027366 end time Dec-16-10 00:25:02 PST)

i think this is how im gonna go and just rattle can the header panel. there is a black paint i believe was a spray paint that everyone used, i think it was john deer black or something. or should i use a paint made for plastic like krayola
