I'm studying on lifts/tire sizes and MPG each 4x4 Ranger gets.

I have a 85 Ford Ranger 4x4 (2.3FI,5SPD MANUAL) and was wanting to get a lift....but I am looking to keep round 20mpg highway if possible (though people say it won't).


So I am asking anyone who has a 4x4 Rangers with lift and bigger tires what MPG do you get? Any yr, any engine, any transmission....

I have a 02 FX4 5spd manny, 3"BL, 33" i get 17-18 consistant round town/hwy

 

03 fx4 5speed manual with 4.10's and 31's I would get 20-21 on the highway.

 

4.0 3.73's w/ 33's getting 14 or so city haven't done a tank of strictly highway yet.

 

4.0 5 speed w/ 32s & 4.10s, 1 " BL, maxed Torsion bars getting about 18-19mpg mixed highway/city driving

 

4.0L 5spd with 4.10s, doublelifted on 35s I usually see 15-16 mixed driving. I have squeezed over 17 a few times mixed driving but it's tough. All freeway is around 18mpg.

 

4.0 sohc, 4:10's, automatic, 3"bl, maxxed t-bars, 2" aal, 33's, cold air intake and a flowmaster getting 17-19 highway

 

4.0 sohc 33's 4.10's and city 13 highway 15 if im lucky.

 

4.0 sohc, 3" BL, 4.10's, 33x12.5's getting about 15ish around town, some mixed higway driving, around 16, taking it real easy on the interstate, about 17-18 on a real good day.

 

What I don't understand is how people say these 2.3L will only get 17-18 mpg or less while yalls 4.0s get the same....that's screwed up.

4.0 with a 4'' suspension lift and 33x12.5 and I normally get around 15-16

 

The increase rolling resistance from the larger tire will not be kind to a 2.3.

If you plan on goin up more than 2 sizes in tires a new gears front and rear will be in order. A lot of these guys running 35's need to re gear if they haven't.

 

04 4.0 with 3 in body lift. LT285 75 16 Toyo's . 4.10 's . average 14mpg's.

 

3.0, 33's, 3.73s= not good. Ive been getting 14 highway. Drove in the snowstorm a couple weeks ago and got 9.

 

04 Fx4, stock size tires, checked tonight when i filled up. 15.82 mpg. (ethanol) mostly hwy.

 

See sig below--average 20 MPG(mostly highway driving) except during winter-then it drops to around 16 MPG.

98 4.0L Auto 4x4, factory height, 31x10.5 all terrain tires. I believe I have either 3.73 or 4.10 gears need to crawl back under and read the tag. I'm getting 15mpg mixed right now, but my tranny has also been acting up the last 6 months.

 

93, 3.0, 3.73's, 31" 20 - 22 on the highway

 

2007 Mazda B4000 SE 4x4. 5R55E Automatic, 4.10 Limited Slip, 4.0 V6, no lift, 265/75R16 Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo Tires:

16 mpg highway cruising at 70 mph
18 mpg highway cruising at 65 mph
19 mpg highway cruising at 60 mph
20 mpg highway cruising at 55 mph
21 mpg highway cruising at 52 mph (this is my peak...mileage is all downhill from here up)

Truck is custom tuned for premium fuel and is setup to not downshift on uphill unless 75% throttle applied...this minimizes gear hunting on hills. The truck is perfectly capable of going uphill without downshifting in 5th gear...they just have it programmed factory for quick, imho grossly premature downshifts

 

2004 xlt 4x4, 4.0L superlifted with BFG A/Ts, get about 14-16 city, and 17-18 hwy, dont do much hwy drivin though, only calculated it once

 

leveling coils (about 1 inch total) i get about 17 - 18 highway depending on how i drive.

 

What tire size?

 

2004 4.0 4x4 4 door lifted on 33x12.5R15 BFG mud terrain KM2, 4.10 gears

tuned, 19.5mpg average (city and highway) and i normally cruise at 70-80 on the highway

 

2002, 4.0, 4x4, 4.10's lifted on 33x12.50 bfg AT's and I get around 15 mpg :/ hopefully an exhaust and new fuel filter in the summer can get me some back.
