CL find : FX4 Level ll shifter

I found a FX4 Level ll shifter for $60 on CL. Its a sick deal.

The guy I bought it from replaced this with a Hurst. It has some parts in the box that I am not sure if they should be installed when I do the swap.

First is the large metal washer holes in it and the rubber washer...Does that need to go back in?

Also what kind of boot do I need and does it attach to the stock shifter console?

I think you'll just need to unbolt the FX4 shifter from the rest of the assembly you have there, remove your current shifter in a similar manner, and install your new shifter. You'll already have those parts in your transmission. And i've never seen the part # for the boot on newer model Rangers w/ the chrome FX4 shifter and plastic console, but they do make it. Look @ the "How-to" (in the how to section) on FX4 shifter installation & it will become clearer.

The 2004+ manual LII's used a leather boot that fits the Ranger cupholder consolette. I'd look into using that one or contact RedlineGoods.

Bob, how does the oem shifter boot attach to the console? I've always wondered that. The "How-to" uses office supply clips for the aftermarket boot.

Thanks Jake. I was looking @ the Redline website Bob linked and drew that conclusion. I think the oem rubber boots have a few of those nipples (O: on them too.

The 2002/3 LII leather boot has 3 or 4 metal tabs and clips that snap into rectangular openings in the bezel. The 2004 LII may be similar or different. I haven't had one apart so I don't know.

Thanks Bob. I was looking @ a new '08 or '09 Ranger FX4 that had the chrome shifter w/ leather (pleather?) boot and the same plastic cupholder console as in my 2003 XLT.

well there is about 8 until you go to take off the old boot, then you are lucky if you have 3 and a half.

So is the BL extension the same as a standard extension for an XLT.

Both shifters mount the same way to the transmission stub so there shouldn't be any difference.

I haven't bought one but, from what I've seen, Redline is the way to go:

I installed the shifter last night and I ended up using the Hurst boot. It looks pretty slick IMO.

I will post pics later.

Looks and feels good Jake. Shifts way smoother then your original shifter.
