I picked up another 35w. 6000k HID kit this weekend for my fog-lights i removed the fog light bulb it is said 9145 or h10 so the local HID shop only had h10 bulbs so i grabbed that. and what do you know it doesn't fit 2 of the prongs line up bu the third is off by a little bit i could shave off a bit of the third one and have it fit but i thought I'd ask for your opinions before i did this. I've already spent $100 on the kit and i can't return it so should i try shaving the bulbs to fit or should i try to find the proper bulbs for the kit. also if anyone knows were i can find the proper bulbs that would be great.

ok but which size did you get was it h10 or were you able to find a 9145

 

You might try going back to the place where you bought it from & show them. Maybe they have run into this before & know how to fix it. It might be worth a shot.(let them break it) You might get lucky & they may replace it for you because if it says it will fit but "THEIRS" don't.

 

i already went back all the bulbs they had that said they were h10 are the same they don't fit, i even tried 3 other stores in the area but no one has the same size that i need, keep in mind none of these stores had a 9145, they all had the h10 bulbs.

 

well i have 9007. i dont exactly remember how i found out what i had exactly. it may be in your manual but i honestly dont remember. but if you end up getting another hid kit, go to ebay and get a kit from there. i have a xentek slim ballast kit only like 50 or 60 bucks. and they sell all the kits for the same price.

 

the 9007 is for your headlights i have a separate kit for them this bulb that I'm looking for is the fog lights.

 

h10 is a 9145

 

ya that's what the bulb i have now says it is a 9145 sylvania bulbs and it says on the bulb its also an h10, and when i went to the store they had a few of those fake HID bulbs laying around and those h10's looked perfect for my truck but the H10's they had in the HID bulbs were a little different. I'll post a pick of the h10's that i got with the HID's

 

ok as you can see the 2 tabs on the top and the left side of the lights line up perfectly but the one on the lower right side do not line up at all my thought was to trim the HID tab down and just use whatever is left the original bulb fit really tight in the socket so i don't think the new on will wobble around at all.

 

So give it a shot an see what you have to trim

 

OK the guy at the store said to go ahead and try trimming it down if it still doesn't work he'll still warranty it. now on to phase 2 what do you guys recommend for cutting these, i only have a high speed drywall roto-zip, so I think i'm going to go invest in a dremel tool but what would be the best model or style for this kind of mod.

 

Yeah trim it down, thats what I had to do with mine. I probably used a dremel, the roto-zip would work too. Just go slow and be careful, those things can take of a ton of material if you slip.

 

if i got a dremel for this would you recommend that i just use a drill bit to shave it down or should i get the small blade attachment and cut it off.

 

Any of those would work, the sanding bit would work too. Your not taking off a lot of material at all, you could probably do it by hand with some sandpaper it would just take longer.

 

and after buying a $90 dremel tool and about 15 minutes of messing around the new fog lights are in and working like a charm however I'll have to find a good way to weather proof the connections seeing how they are exposed right now. the connections on from the light bulb didn't come with a socket just 2 wires. if anyone has a good method please fell free to share. I'm just thinking 2 layers of adhesive shrink wrap

 

Might also want to check for some 9005s. That's what I put in my fogs('01-03). Just have to trim one of the tabs. Like you did.

 

9005 work in place of the 9145s also. Im running 9005s in my fogs!

ya the h10 are working fine however now the light on the passenger side won't come on. I'm really starting to dislike HID's I've had nothing but problems getting them in and once there in i get maybe half a days use out of them before they stop working.
