Catback vs. muffler only

I'd like to upgrade the exhaust on my truck (2004 Fx4 II). The catback systems I've found look awesome, but they are also expensive. Is it worth the extra cost to get the full catback, or is it better to just replace the muffler and leave the stock pipe? I'm thinking flowmaster. Any thoughts are welcome.

You could go to a local muffler shop and have them custom make pipes for ya. It would probably be cheaper than buying a catback system.

What would the benefit be over just leaving the stock pipes there with a new muffler?

i took my cat back off and my brother who owns a shop down town made me a pipe with a Thrush Welded muffler with a 45degree mandrel bend exhaust pipe and at the end was a nice chrome exhaust tip, that comes out infront of my rear right tire , parts alone were $200, but i got the sound and the look i wanted
