Hey guys, a coworker is working on his truck and has a question -

1997 Ford F-150 4.2L V6

He replaced his thermostat (among other things) and just wants to know what the torque specs are for the two bolts that hold the housing in. Any help would be great! Thanks.

 

Hand tight is fine. Nothing fancy. Obviously use a gasket or some RTV.

 

Hand tight is a broad generalization .
~15-20 foot pounds maybe ?

 

Thanks guys. I was figuring about that much - he also replaced his water pump and the service department at the dealership told us 18-22 foot pounds for those bolts, so I was thinking maybe around there if not less.

And hey look at that 18-22 ft lbs of trq is pretty damn close to 15-20 ft lbs of trq. I call that hand tight

 

But hand tight for a wimpy guy may only be 15-20 inch lbs , whereas Mr. B down the street makes 20 ft lbs with his teeth. He has a tendency to break things when going "only hand tight".
