Is the Whipple 02 3.0 S/C Kit Really "Bolt-ON"?
Is the Whipple 02 3.0 S/C Kit Really "Bolt-ON"?
What I mean is, does it come with the fuel injectors, the higher flow fuel pump, ect.. I also was wondering if the bamachips XCalibrator 2 Flash Device would be effective enough to re-calibrate the Ecu to handle the new found power...
And while I am at it... Would I have to worry about the transmission??? I have the 5-speed autotragic, and it's a 4x4 so I am also nervous about the transfer-case...
I figure it's best to ask these questions now before I spend the cash... Although I do want to get the Xcalibrator either way cause I want some extra power before the "WINTER" time!!

The cool thing about that whipple and the 3.0 now is this. Ford will actually order the Supercharger in for you, Install it for you, warranty it for you, as well as keep your warranty intact. No one believes me, but check it out. http://www.fordracing.com
it's fairly easy to install, the instrucitons have LOTS of detail. I helped Brian install on it on his truck a while back. U don't need a new fuel pump. they do give you injectors and you'll need to get spark plugs. u do have to grind on the alternator braket I think so the pulley fits over that, everything else just "bolts up" it's really that easy.
and the time it takes to put on ai would say around 4-6 hours if it's your first time.
Ford would charge 80-100+ per hour for labor, so all the damn dealerships can go....... yeah......

I dont see it adding up all for what? a warranty that they may or may not honor if something screws up in the engine. I believe the warranty is only on the kit itself, not the engine.
Fits 2002-04 3.0L Ranger auto or manual transmission
Achieve excellent throttle response and mid-range torque by installing a Whipple Supercharger system
A recalibration of the OEM computer by qualified calibration powertrain engineers means that the Whipple Supercharger is a fully integrated system
This system incorporates an automatic transmission performance recalibration for quick, firm and precise shifting
This is an easy-to-install system that bolts on in under 2 hours. It fits under the hood with no permanent modifications to the vehicle and absolutely no wiring
This kit achieves incredible horsepower‚ 230 HP at 5400 RPM, up from the stock 154 HP and torque‚ 260 ft./lbs. torque at 3000 RPM, up from the stock 180 ft./lbs.
This huge increase in usable low-end and mid-range power is due to the positive displacement design of the belt driven Whipple Supercharger
None of this shows a warranty. I can provide the same warranty that Ford Racing provides, which is Whipples manufacturers warranty. Ford Racing does not do anything past that. They go to the extent of saying you have to go tp the manufacturer (whipple) to make a warranty claim and not Ford Racing. If some dealer somewhere wants to do something on their own, that is one thing, but Ford Racing Parts does not and will not. I have already researched this as I have them on my website (http://underdog-performance.com/id50.html) and needed to get the facts. If someone has concrete proof otherwise I would like to know it. The only case I can see where that would be different is if it was attached to a crate engine. As I said, let me know if I am out-of-line as this is my understanding.

and on the install time, yes it says 2 hours on there. I have the Ford specs from a master tech and it says 8 book hours of work at $100 an hour. Not worth it.
Whoa whoa whoa....
Did you say send the ECU to whipple???? I don't think so...
If putting the thing on envolves pulling the ECU and mailing it somewhere then I would have less trouble selling my ranger and buying a lightning... I am all for taking some time and installing this thing... or spending some green to have a pro put it on.. But if I have to remove the ECU then this is out of the question...

Honestly, I am sure that removing it isn't that hard... I just don't want anything to happen to the ECU once it is out.. I mean if Ford could install the Whipple then how would they do it?? I guess my curious nature would lead me to ask... If I had the Xcalibrator; is there a map that can be loaded to adjust the ECU for the supercharger that way.. Then I wouldn't have to pull it...
you have to reporgram the "stock program" to adjust for more fuel ALL THE TIME.....
if you switch it to the normal, you'd preolly break something bad... I think this is why they want to reprogram the ECU.
Brian is using his bama chip thing with the reprogramed ECU and it works very well.

You don't need to remove the ECU for anything with the programmer. The chip is a different story, since the chip piggybacks off the ECU.
I think mailing the ECU off for a few days is well worth the added power you get and the added security in knowing its done right.

To answere your questions.... I dont want to mail my ECU anywhere cause I don't want to risk anything happening to it....
As far as the Chip vs Tuner conflict... I am getting a tuner as soon as the bamachips website opens up... Unless I decide to get one from the SCT Website... So if thats the case I think I would be alright there...
Oh and for what its worth I don't know about the rest of you but I called 3 different Ford Dealerships and one actually said to me.. "Why would you want to do a dumb thing like Supercharge a Ranger?" But the general idea was that they would NOT install a supercharger in a Ranger.. They all said go to a speed shop.. They said the S/C would void the warranty and kill the T/X anyway.. They also said that Ford was considering offering a S/C ranger but would not add it to a previous truck..

Doug provides a better tune to be added to the stock supercharger program Whipple provides. Doug can do a number of things to be sure the a/f ratio is the best to obtain max power... he can also do the race gas programs for it for those fun track nights
