i want to get better stopping power. i got 10in drums that came with my new rear end (upset about it because there were better options that i did not know about) but i know the rotors up front need replacing, they have like small pits in them and are all rusted on the inside. what options do i have? what brands are good? what size can i get? and will i have to get a new calipers if i go larger?

I've heard ebc green or yellow stuff pads and their slotted roters are best bang for your buck

 

Yeah I need brakes soon, and I will be putting on EBC slotted rotors and set of their pads.

They are a great improvement over stockers from what I have heard and seen.

just looked them up..rather expensive at 190bucks a pair. is Power Stop any good? or SP performance? Raybestos? or Centric?

I just have stock replacement rotors with EBC green stuff. And their shoe compound shoes in the back. Don't get be starterd on the back brakes

 

I'm running Rotorpros Drilled/Slotted rotors front and rear with Posi Quite Pads and mine stops like a indy car.

EBC Greenstuff up front. You can go with stock rotors, you don't need drilled/slotted.

As far as the back the only real improvement you will see is a disc brake swap. The drums are hopeless.

 

I've got EBC slotted rotors and their greenstuff pads. They get rid of that infamous brakefade from the stock ones. Mine squeak a little but I didn't install them properly.
Other members use hawks, I tried to get them but they don't have them in canada. This why I got the EBC stuff.
I got mine through summit. They have to be drop shipped since they are coming from europe.

 

i was looking to get rid of that sqeeking from when i roll. its annoying. think its cuz the rotor is a lil abused. i was thinking if im replacing it might as well get something better than oem. ill look into these brands! thanks guys...will drilled and slotted help me or will stock rotors be enough?

 

Personally I don't think shorting your sf in the brake dept is a great idea. Ebc by far is the best. I have thier slotted rotors on my car and they are great. On a truck I would never put slotted or drilled rotors. Dimpled yes, slotted no. With a good load they will crack rather easy. I put yellow stuff hd pads in my truck along with the expo axle (easily best brake upgrade even in stock trim) and I stop much better. With the master cylinder and yellow stuff pars in the back I will be quite pleased.

 

what an expo axle? and thats good advice. i will look into some dimpled EBC's. so i dont want drilled but i want dimpled? correct?

An expo axle upgrade is taking the axle off a ford explorer and putting it on your truck. The expo axle is 31spline over the rangers 28splines. It comes stock with 12 inch rotors. Instead of swapping axles you can modify mustang discs for your axle. Check out the howto.

The mustang brakes are a good idea, but if you find an axle for the right deal it's going to cost about the same. The mustang brakes do require some modification to the backing plates and e brake, and almost complete disassembly of the rear axle to install. However on the flip side the explorer axle dies require some cutting and welding. But not to in depth. The mustang brakes still doesn't adress the lack of brawn we need in the rear axle either tho. Plus if you look correctly you can get a good limited slip in the diff opposed to the most found open diffs in a ranger.
