opinions on supercharging a stock 4.0

besides the cost factor which i know is kind of crazy, i was wondering what the general though of supercharging a stock 4.0 was. The only thing ive done to it was have a custom flowmaster put on. I was custom bent from the cat back with 2 1/2 inch pipe and a flowmaster 40. it sounds really nice but id love to get a little extra punch out of the 4.0 when the need arises. Again, besides the cost of a supercharger, im concerned with blowing head gaskets and cracking pistons. im not gonna race the thing or anything like that. hell its not even the everyday driver yet lol. this should probably be in the forced induction forum, but i figured more people with the 4.0 would check in here. i just needed some opinions on engine wear and tear. Maybe i should just cut my losses, buy a cold air intake and get a chip. i was looking at the Explorer Express Eaton supercharger for the SOHC 4.0. any help/advice is appreciated.

*by the way, do any of you run an aftermarket chip in your 4.0L's? and if so, which one and was it worth the money? thanks again guys and gals.

Umm, give us a lil more than 2 hours for an answer bud.
I believe EE is the only maker of 4.0 SOHC superchargers until more come out that are made for the 05 Mustang.

BamaChips, get an X2 programmer. Chips are a way of the past, programmers are now.

Eh, i dont think the 4.0 was built for forced induction of any kind.

They were already pushing the limits of it stock..lol I think...

I got up to 215rwhp with just bolt ons and a tune..

Had experience with nitrous as well..

IMHO, i wouldnt supercharge the 4.0sohc... I dont think they could handle it long.

From what Ive talked to Djaye abuot, The sohc is a pretty good platform to mdo an engine. The found a breaking point (timing chain tensioner) at 300 RWHP, but other wise I hear it was runnin great.the EE kit wont get you at 300 RWHP so wth a non daily driver, that you dont race, I say it will be fine.

go for it...

Id say go for it, if you dont have a high mileage engine. And plan on running 5 or less pounds of boost. The truck (personally dont think) wont handle more than that too long.

thanks for the replies guys. ill probably end up putting an intake on it and getting a programmer from bama. maybe some headers. i need to get rid of the rev limiter and the like. it'll be the everyday driver at some point, and its not worth the chance of screwing up the motor. its runs strong as it is. i can keep up with my friends s-10 Xtreme without a problem....till about 90. then the governor kills me lol oh well. thanks for the info guys. much appreciated.

im starting to wish i never bought it....cause i cant leave it the way it is lol

I have the EE supercharger, I love it ... I had a programer, intake, and exhaust, those alone were a nice upgrade, but the S/C made all those seem like nothing.

i say go for it, you will love it!

i ve heard the 4.0 is kinda weak, i also know of a person that cracked a piston with the EE, but he had nitrous and everything else.

gotta pay to play.
