Diesel

Hey, Im thinking about getting a 3 or 4 cylinder diesel engine and dropping it in my 95 ranger. Any ideas on how complicated this will be or plus or minuses for this. I know that the wiring harness wont be easy. Any one know some one that has done this? Any opinion is appreciated. Thanks

Get a 4 cylinder. Wiring will be a cakewalk assuming you go with a mechanical diesel. You will need to find a way to bolt your tranny to the engine (adapter plate), mounts, radiator hoses, fuel lines. In real life, it will cost you more then you think and take up some time. With creative thinking and not being afraid to spend a few bucks to get it done, it won't be that bad.

4bt would be the best, they are tough to find for less than $5k

you will need a bigger trans if you go with a 4bt, along with upgrading your rear(s) and t-case if applicable.

You could use a lot of different ones...T19 or ZF out of a Ford...NV from a dodge...you can get adapters for a 700r4 out of a Chevy....anything you want basically. Even a 9 or 10 spd.

I have heard that the GM transmissions that have been bolted up to those 4bt's in the bread/box trucks get vibrated to death. I would definitely suggest the 4bt but I would get a different tranny if it came with the GM one

you could do a 10spd road ranger, think that is an sae adapter plate. id have to go back and look at the build though. NJ 4500 or 5600, and the ZF if you pick a 4bt, and plan to add moar powaaaa! i have the m5r2 and its holding up so far, but i havent done my injectors or turbo yet...see what happens then

I imagine that would hold up fine as long as you don't get to hard on it. Then again why have it and not be hard on it.

I said hard on twice for all you perverts out there!

there is a forum that is about nothing but the 4bt swap and there is a guy on there with a 94 ranger with a full build. it really opened my eyes to the amount of work it takes to swap one in.

might want to google it and find it.

Have fun fitting a ZF or such through an even modified firewall/trans hump.
