now that my fiberglass fenders are installed i have no underbody to protect the engine from mud flinging into it. So my question is would it be alright to go offroading in the mud? Do any of you guys out there with fiberglass experience problems with leaving these gaps open to the engine when offroading in the mud?

Well, I've trashed an alternator just leaving the gap open with conventional fenders. I have those rubber guards in the fenderwell out right now, and they do appear to have had an effect.

Not sure if that helps you as I don't know how big the fiberglass ones leave a gap.

 

i wouldn't do it, even with the fenders in place my engine still get coated in mud

my engine is pretty muddy.

im ordering a skid plate for the front soon tho...it should help 100%

 

It doesn't. Just to let you know. It helps SOME, but not as much as you might think.

 

yea its mainly that v stream that the tires make that throws a nice stream strait up into the fan and then it get blasted everywhere. it helps having a lift or body lift..kinda lets the mudd fly past the front bumper a bit more


but i guess make some custom rubber inserts to make up for the ones u lost if ya really want



but yes, water is the baaad stuff

 

there is a guy that took rubber matts for the house and used them as gap gaurds on a body lift, im sure you can do something like that for your fenders

theres Evan's post on the guards, im sure that can be done on the front

 

ya the front would be very easy to make.
get some rubber mats and drill some holes in it. Put it in place of the old ones in front.
just pull out the push pins and put them back in with the new.
