Icon14 ROLLER ROCKER HELP!!!!

hello i a new member but not new to this site you gys have saved me hours of trouble.

I have a 94 3.0 with quiet a few rockers taping and ticking there way to the scrap bucket.

I am very interested in doing the roller rocker conversion and have been racking my brain for days trying to find all of the proper information.

to simplifiy i dont want to use morana's 1.8's how ever i would like to use 1.7's do the morana 1.7's work on the 3.0???

If not what is the best least expensive roller rocker that requires no or minimum modifaction? ie new push rods

need to do these soon any help is much appreciated.

thank you for your time guys!!

Don’t go too high on the ratio, watch for spring bind and push rod bind.
Make sure to allow for clearances per manufacturer specs.
Also, if your spring are too soft, worn out, then there are other issues that can come in to play.

Sorry I have never gone this route, usually do the cam and kit to get it done, still there is a lot of chk’g.

luck

yeah im just lookin to gain a little power and take some strain off the motor because itend to drive it like i stole it.

would like to keep stock 1.6 ratio and what is the deal with the mustang rockers? the work but just need longer push rods to realign the valetrain?? UGHHH

i realise a cam is apox the same price for better gains but she is still and everyday drive + the rockers need to be done anyway

basically im in the same boat. i have found a few to pick from but havent ordered yet.
look for 1.7 ratio. look for 5/16" stud size. use the stock studs tho. cuz there 8mm.
here are some i found

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SCC-SCP3022BL-1/
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SCC-SCP1022BL-1/
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CCA-1054-1/
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRN-36758-1/
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CRN-44746-1/

i did a quick search on these and found these with the right specs. do some more research on the brands and what not to be exact on if they will fit or not.

Wow, $15-25 each? Is that the running rate or is that a good price?
Also some of those are listed for v8's. As long as the stud size is 5/16 they work? Is that what 4.0L's are also?

I read it on a review of the 3.0 on another ranger forum so not sure about the 4.0. But yes the rockers in a 302 fit. So from a mustang or explorer but the stud is standanrd and u need a metric bolt. Thatd the only thing. The rollers should work

not exactly true the morana RR's are a pedestal type while the 302 rockers that funtion properly and stud mount the most comon complaint i have read about the 302 rockers is they do not wear correctly on the valve tips
i was aware that the studs need to be retaped for the sae studs

95% sure i figured out the RR mystery crane cams offers them in a 1.73 ratio (perfect) for around 235$ how ever they are listed for the 3.8l ford requires a stud kit as did the mustangs but they are the right fit
will be doing this install in a few weeks

Has anyone done the 1.73 ratio in a Ranger 3.0 ?
Watch the clearances !
Piston to valve clearance might be a problem; turn the engine over by hand and chk.

I have had the Morana 1.7's on my 3.0 for about 100,000 miles now and they perform perfectly.

The 1.7 Rocker arms from a 5.0 are the same as the 3.0 it is the pedestal that corrects the valve train geometry.

When you order from Morana your just getting the blue Ford Racing rockers.
They mill the pedestals to fit the 3.0.
I know this to be true because Tom Morana had to rush me some pedestals because they did not mill them to spec before shipping to me. Honest mistake that he handled quickly.

If you just buy pedestal mount rocker for a 5.0 it will not work without milling the pedestals or changing the pushrod length.

I did notice that the last set that was listed had shims with the kit.
They might work.

Really. I was misinformed. Thank you! There are no other options besides morana rockers?

I am not 100% sure that there are no other options.
It is just that valve train geometry is very crucial otherwise you are doing more damage than good.
I choose to leave it up to people who have done there homework.
Like I said 100,000 miles + on my Morana kit and it was a easy install.

I like Scrambler82"s sig......''Do It Right The First Time''
Words to live by.
