need opinions on motors

Well my 3.0 took a **** on me after 102k miles needless to say im over the 3.0 motor this is the second one ive had major problems with in the low 100's my truck is an 04 with the 5speed and id like to put a different motor in it, what are my options I want too keep it simple (either a straight up swap or something I can get the wiring in a kit or something) Ive heard the 302 is fairly popular but any feedback on what goes into it or what years to use would be appreciated.

the 302 will not be an straight forward swap. from what i understand you need a differ tranny, need tcase work done, driveshafts, the 8.8 axle, and the computer that was with the doner....basically alot of stuff. i havent done it so dont quote me on this.

4.0 and another 3.0 i beleive are more straight forward swaps. again with the 4.0, you need the computer from it.

That's exactly what i was wondering. These engines are known to go well past 200k before a rebuild if you do basic maintenance on them.

Either you've had bad luck (two 3.0 engines crapping out) or they lead a hard life. 3.0's can last
a long time. Mine has nearly 266k on it.
