JDM style car key

Alright guys I found this on another forum called mighty car mods. It's called a JDM key.
FIRST: Buy a screw driver (any size of your preference)
SECOND: Make a copy of your truck/car key.
THIRD: Take a dremel and cut the sides of the key head off and grind it to make it easier to slide in the key
FORTH: Heat up the screw driver in a vise and slide the head of the screw driver off
FIFTH: Put the key in the vise and apply heat and slide the screw driver head down on it.
THE FINISHED PRODUCT

I grinded down the end of the screw driver head and cleaned it up the best I could so it would fit in the ignition.

So whats the point? To make it look like you stole the truck or something?

The original forum used a smaller screw driver with the big fat handle but that wouldn't fit in my ignition.

you'll need the chip in the key on a newer model truck.

I could see something like this in the dub world but not for a ford ranger.

No officer that is my key... I didn't steal it

And if you have more than two keys and can afford to buy another chip key to ruin you could do that for sure.. just cut the chip out of the old key.. drill a hole down the top of the driver and silicone the chip in and cap it.. might be a trial and error effort to get the chip close enough..

older keys is easy.. pop the cap and pull the pill

other options is to tape a chip/key to the column.. but that defeats the purpose of the PATS system and you may as well just use a standard slot screwdriver at that point

mid 2000 and up use the rounded more oval head key.. they might be a bit tricky to get a chip out.. I'll have to do some research on how to get those out... I think they are molded right in the middle

"Wow" is all I can say without sounding as brutally honest as I want to be . . .

Heck, I've got a VeeDub, but I wouldn't make a key like that one for it... in fact, I like the original key... it has a lot of character. You can tell it was made in 1985.

what on earth is "JDM" about that?

I can only assume this mod came up after smoking too much pot.
