they're not legal. pretty sure the abs rule still stands. but if you can find someone to sticker your truck that doesn't care. you should be fine. i've seen a few trucks running around with body lifts but no one i know has one.. i take that back. my buddy had one on his chevy and me and another guy and him were going back and forth. so yeah the law still stands. have abs? no body lift. maine kinds sucks. my buddy;s truck was almost impounded because it was modded and it was way illegal. but it was only 6" on 37's.

it also states the original suspension can not be disconnected.... so you're illegal too!
I'm guessing it's one of those laws that "if you abuse it, they will ticket you". If your reckless and drive like a tool then yea they will give you ****. If your respectable you shouldn't have a problem.

i just stopped into VIP today to ask about this for my sas. the current law states no body lifts on vehicles with either 2 or 4 wheel abs, BUT they have made revisions to maines lift laws and effective the 20th of this month they will be legal on vehicles equipped with abs. he is going to call me with more info on tire sizes tomorrow because the rules he has are conflicting with each other. one says 2 inches over stock size tire, and the revision says that the tire size has been deleted from the book, and yet another law in his books said as long as its a reasonable tire size its ok. ill post back tomorrow with tire size details.
i also asked about the factory suspension must be connected law and if i would be able to do a 3 link with coilovers using an axle from a 78 f250 since it states unless stronger than stock parts are used, ie shock absorbers, springs, etc. and he said he saw no problem with that as long as everything looked safe and i met the frame height requirements... which for a ranger is 27 inches in front and 29 in rear. measured on a level surface with the vehicle unloaded from the ground to the ends of the FACTORY frame rails by the bumper brackets. i asked if i could just completely delete my abs module and he said as far as abs goes, the new law says as long as the abs light isnt on then they dont have to worry about it.

also, i havent heard anything about all this new law crap. but it would be better then the shitty laws we have now
yeah hopefully they change the laws
)Actually, the laws are better now. For a few years, Maine tire laws required any vehicle equipped with ABS to have the exact size as what is on the door jamb sticker. Height or width weren't even part of the equation. It had to be factory. They finally changed that a few years ago.

I've gone a little conservative. I got rejected for tires that had less than a half inch of tread past the fender. You had to put a straightedge on it to tell, but they still rejected me. (it doesn't mean that I haven't swapped to stock tires to get a sticker before, though. *wink*)

in all honesty, if you don't drive like an *******. the cops don't care. its when it comes to inspection time is when its an issue.. my buddy with a duramax was hassled for tires and lift and tint and stuff but guess what.. he drove like an *** hole all the time. i never got bother for my tint.
maine is cracking down hard on inspections and trucks that have been passed that shouldnt be for illegal modifications. bout a year and a half ago. a diesel shop in saco was raided, 14 trucks had stickers pulled and the owner lost his license to inspect because he was passing trucks that shouldn't have been. there have been a few other instances where cops will peel stickers off on trucks that they pull over and then make the owner get a tow. happened to a guy i know. I was pulled over for speeding this past spring. at night on 202. he didn't say antthing about my windows or exhaust or tires or anything. he just was scrutinizing my inspection sticker. truck was legal when it was inspected. that current time it wasn't due to tint but he didnt say anything.
but if these new laws and changes are legit. it might be easier to own a modified truck in maine.
