hi . im helping out a guy in town to try and get his plow truck running again . anyway its a 1991 extra cab ford ranger with a 2.9l and a 5 speed . it will crank but won't fire . a friend told me he thought it is the knock sensor . i doubt it is . but i got to thinking and figured i'd go about testing it anyway . anyone by chance have a pic of the locaton of the sensor ? . im more familiar with the lima's and the 4.0s then the old 2.9s as far as sensor's go . anyway thanks for any info

 

There is no knock sensor on that engine. If you're having ignition problems, the most likely cause is a failed TFI Ignition Module. It doesn't necessarily have to be the TFI but it is the best guess.

I don't know for sure on the 91 2.9L. It is probably right on the distributor itself but some years/engines have it remote mounted on the inner fender or rad core support instead.

 

oh ok . yeah it is probably shaped like a bar and mounts with special torque bolts to the distributor like the old school 351 and 302 v8s . cool thanks
