how often should i change my?
The Ford manual states 30,000 and 90,000 miles for trans flush and assuming change of fluids cuz I don't think you can do it with out. I would suggest amsoil syn for fluid. For my truck it will cost 85.45 thats with a 4.0 you need 10.3 qts and you should do your transfer case (providing you have one) becaus it is the same fluid, its an additional 1.25 qts which adds 16.40 to the price. Hope this helps.

Do not use gear oil. For many years now, all Rangers, automatic or manual, have used ATF although they use two diifferent types of ATF in newer Rangers.
Your owners manual gives fluid specs and capacities. It also came bundled with a Scheduled Maintenance Guide that gives change intervals that vary depending on how you use your truck - see the section titled "Special Operating Conditions". If you don't have these books, you can usually find them on eBay or look it up online.

General 2001 Ranger recommended change intervals:
Auto trans (Normal street use): 150,000 miles
Auto trans (Special Operating Conditions): 30,000 miles
Mercon V
Manual trans: 60,000 miles
Mercon
(Mercon and Mercon V are not interchangeable and should never be mixed.)
How about adding a short signature that tells us a few key things about your truck? Year, model, engine, trans, drive, etc.
