It looks like some sort of air intake...but not sure...anyone know?

 

That's a really stupid design in order to bring cold air into the airbox if you ask me. That things almost making the truck impossible to drive in water. He should have mouted that thing behind the light at least.

 

alot of people do that, for on-road driving. supposedly more power.

alright so its a bad thing for off-road...i forgot to take a shot of the front see if there is anything up there as far as a shield, or some sort of guard, goes. Seems like it could suck in a lot of crap that could jam up in the tube before getting to the filter...

 

i'd say its ok for the street, but probably not worth the time

 

They actually restrict the air more than allowing the air to be pushed into the intake.

 

If it were up higher hidden behind the bumper it wouldnt be as bad. imagine the bugs and rocks he could be sucking in haha

 

problem with that design, is that all of the tubing used to get it down there...... really KILLS the air flow. So its rather useless imo

 

Also the nasty road gunk it'll suck up that low.

looks like the March ram air for 5.0 GT Fox mustangs, it replaces the passenger side foglight with a tube like that

 

um, actually... if you look closely, thats a dryer vent tube. they are specifically designed to allow maximum airflow with the least restriction possible... this is how your dryer stays cool enough to not have a meltdown.

in that case, whatever air actually does get into the tube flows thru the tube really well.

just because its ugly and other people think the same, doesnt mean its ineffective.

now, how much air does get in there, is beyond my knowledge. and of course, it would be very bad if used in off-road applications. however, street use would be ok because unless a squirrel finds its way into that thing, the tube aint gonna clog and the filter will block everything else it's supposed to. until it gets dirty, of course, but we all know filters do that sort of thing.

 

Dryers and a trucks intake are totally different. All that tubing is un neccessary, and slows the air with all those bends. Granted he'll be getting cooler air, but even in street applications he's gonna suck up stuff and possibly destroy his air filter (cough rocks cough), if not than seriously restrict it with all the dead bugs he sucked up!Who the hell wants to clean an air filter every week and warch bugs and road grime fall out

 

A friend of mine owns a service station. A few months ago a kid had a rice burner towed in, it wouldn't run or start. The kid placed an intake tube like that one, but lower on his car. It was about two inches off the ground. He went through a puddle of water, and you guessed it, the intake sucked the water into the engine. The engine was wasted. Filter are made for dirt, not fluids. That mod could cost you thousands!!
