So, I'm going to be doing some work on my truck... I'm trying to tackle some repairs that include, hub assembly, shocks, tie rods, lower and upper control arms. I'm very picky about doing things the right way the first time. I've been looking online for service manuals because I want to know the torque setting for every bolt. I'm not looking to get my on hands on a "free book" I don't mind paying some cash I just don't know what book to get.

Any book recommendations would be great I'm trying to do this work in the next 3-4 weeks and I want to "pre-game" this as much as possible since I don't have much experience in automotive tech work.

If the ford factory manual is the one to get I guess that's what I must do. I just want to make sure I get the right copy since there seems to be tons of service manuals for my truck...

I ordered mine from Helm Incorporated (Helm Incorporated - Official Ford Workshop Manuals)

Some people think it's too pricey - but it's worth it to have all of the information.

I picked up all three ford shop manuals for my truck for 30bucks on ebay. Priceless item if you ask me.

 

Machinist Handbook… IMHO !

Bolt size verses thread type verses diameter.

They should all be the same.

Although my handbook is dated 2000, maybe out of date… NOT !

Some special bolts and nuts need to be set to factory specs but they are few and far between.

AND yes the factory book are good references and the pictures are good too, lol, but not an absolute necessity if the money is short.

 

So I picked up the Ford factory workshop books (it was a 2 volume set) and I got a free Ford factory wiring diagram book with it. Cost me 50 bucks + tax.. Now I need to buy some tools... haha :D

 

Wise choice. I have been wrenching on vehicles since I was a kid in the 60s. I always like to have factory manuals for reference.

 

My Machinist Handbook was $75, you can find Factory manuals cheaper than that, not to mention they are many times easier to navigate. Machinist handbook is invaluable in my field but not that awesome for working on trucks.

 

i also use the machinery handbook alot. kinda have to for the job though. 27th version has everything you could possibly want to know.
