I need to get the headliner out of my '93 ext-cab and see a problem before I even start. Getting most of the trim pieces out is obviously a matter of removing screws and christmas tree retainers, but behind the driver/passgr seats are trim panels that reach from floor to ceiling, and include attachments for rear seat belts and side window latches. Can anyone advise me on getting those two long panels off-- or do I need to? --and then getting the headliner out of the cab, preferably through a door? Any other advice to make it as easy as it can be? Are there any good tutorials and videos on the subject? -thx

 

Yeah you have to remove those panels and everything attached to/through them. There's I believe 6 christmas tree retainers holding each panel on. The latches for the pop out windows are held on with torx bolts same with the seat belts. As far as getting the headliner out, I moved both front seats all the way back and reclined them as far back as they would go and just carefully pulled the headliner out one of the doors.

 

Thanks, Chris, that's a help. You don't happen to recall what size torx bit (on a 3/8 drive) fit that seat belt strap guide bolt, do you? I had one for years that would probably fit and now that I need it can't find it, naturally.

 

It's definitely worth the time to take the seats out it makes it so much easier .. When I get home I'll look at my tool and tell you the size of torx bit it is . I would also use a retainer removed tool I bought on and it saved my life and speeds up the process removing those and reduces the chance of braking the push retainers

 

I did this today. I didn't take the seats or the back panels over the back seats out I just folded them down under the seats, and with a little convincing the headliner came out. You're going to need a t50 socket for the seat belt straps. Good luck.
