After they go out what do you have to do to get them to work again or do they just start working after a while?

If what you are saying is that when you switch to high beams they go out that means that your high beams are not working. As you have replaced the switch and the bulbs I think that just leaves the high beam relay or fuse.

I haven't had time to look at it but before they went out I had passenger side head light and the driver side was busted so I got a new one and I had both headlights and as soon as I set the high beams they both went out and have been out since

Just went out and checked all the fuses for the headlights they are all good didn't see a relay for the high beams but I'll pull the passenger side headlight when I get off work this evening and see if it is bad. I did look at the drivers side light bulb and it was still good

Check the connector to the headlight switch. Does it look melted.

The high amount of current that flows through that switch/pigtail sometimes overheats the plastic and it melts/deforms.

It could deform enough for one of the terminals to slide in and out.

What was wrong with my 2000 when the same thing was happening.

Last year I had to replace the pigtail cause two of the wires I think they were tan in color were fried. I haven't checked my butt connectors since I did it and think that may be where my problem is but not for sure. I'm off today and tomorrow or the holiday and am planning on looking into it today
