93 Ranger 4x2 Transmission Swap

Well its time for a new transmission, since the one i have is slipping and ready to die. I personally do not wanna put the A4LD (POS tranny) transmission back into my truck. So with that being said, who here has any ideas for transmissions?

Truck specs:
1993
4x2
V6 3.0

A4LD is the only one you can use with 1991-1994 Ranger 3.0l

3.0l Vulcan engine has unique bolt pattern for bell housing, doesn't match any other engine

Ranger automatics are computer controlled
Your 1993 computer is a 60 wire EEC-IV, it has the software to control an A4LD

1995 3.0l Rangers got the new 104 wire EEC-V computer, and the full computer controlled 4R44E transmission
Your '93 computer can't run the 4R and it can't be swapped out to newer computer, you are about 40 wires light, lol

Now a little info, the A4LD with newer parts will be better than original
A4LD was Fords first computer controlled trans and they went to school on it, it was also the first OverDrive trans and Transmission Shops went to school on that.
A4LD originally got a bad rap because Transmission shops didn't know how to rebuild OD transmissions, so would always have early failures.
And being good "shop guys" you always blame the transmission not your lack of knowledge, that would just be stupid................lmao

Anyway the A4LD, 4R44E and 5R44E are the same transmission, A4LD had 2 solenoids, 4R and 5R have 6 solenoids for full control

So there is no real upgrade in any case.

Good read here on the A4LD: Ford Ranger A4LD Automatic Transmission

And what to do when rebuilding it.

Because the 3.0l Vulcan didn't come out until 1986 there are no older non-computer control transmissions that will bolt to it.
